Holy ****. Unbelievable. Are there any recruits with Florida and Texas at the top of their lists? I'm hoping there are, but the main competition for Vincent Young is Miami and FSU.
Absolutely. Dungy gets fired and becomes the Vikings head coach, while Spurrier takes over for Tampa Bay. You nailed it.
good thought, but it'll be hard to nudge dungy out if they make a run in the playoffs, which they're gearing up to do. if they lose in the first round again, though... TB would be a natural fit. if not TB, he'll probably want to stay in a warmer climate with a team either already playoff-caliber, or on the verge; and one with no cap constraints. of course, he'll want full control over all personnel decisions. jacksonville's possible, but they have cap problems. as a texan fan, i hope not. minnesota's probably a long shot; san diego...? i'd rather stay at UF. the three that kind of jump out at me are: miami (i'm not sure wanndstedt's job is stable); oakland (i don't think gruden will stay there much longer) and, the dark horse, and scariest of all scenarios: indianapolis. again, as a texan fan, i shudder to think about spurrier getting a hold of manning, james and harrison.
robert timmons, the top-rated receiver in texas, has been listing florida and texas as his two main frontrunners for awhile now. however, just this week, he has listed the following 5 schools as all in the running for him: texas, florida, florida st., miami and tennessee. also, mitchell could be effected by this. no one has "signed" anything with anyone. verbal commitments are non-binding. spurrier. . . what a chump. leave it to a classless turd like him to try to steal some of the college football spotlight by resigning the day after the national title game. he's definitely going to the nfl, but it might not be the bucs. it might be, that's probably the best guess. but he might even end up at san diego or minnesota. we'll see. . . either way, I don't see how this could possibly be bad for the Longhorns, unless the Gators try to hire mack. I could see the Florida job being one of the very, very few that might actually lure mack away from texas. I don't think he'd leave for the vikings job [mack, that is].
It will probably be Florida NFL team. Word out of some of the Oklahoma sports radio is that Bob Stoops may go to Florida....
HELL YES! If Stoops is gone, it's probably only a matter of time before OU slips back to mediocrity. How legitimate is the possibility of Stoops leaving for Florida? Just a rumor/speculation, or has Stoops ever hinted about wanting to coach at a program like that.
i think you're off base here -- he likely did it now (the earliest he could if his intention was to wait until after the season) so florida would have time to get another coach in place before recruiting season really heats up. waiting even a week, let alone longer, would have been far more classless. he also could have strung florida along while waiting for a legitimate nfl offer, which also would have been harmful (ala butch davis, last year).
I want Stoops to stay. Chevious, totally heresay, but UT can have Timmons if they want him. Also, if Tampa falls through, I think Spurrier to ATL is possible.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Stoops take the Florida job since he was Spurrier's DC but its not likely. IMO a move from OU to UF is really lateral. The only advantage I see with UF is a fertile recruiting ground. It would be crazy to see Stoops go to UF, and then OU hire Mike Stoops as head coach. About Mack, Mack isn't leaving for another job unless its Florida State. Like Stoops it would be a lateral move for him, and if Mack doesn't sustain what Spurrier has done, he will get a quick axe. More pressure at UF than UT.
I'm a little confused, gr8-1. are you saying that you have reason to think that Timmons will sign with Texas? or are you saying "they can have him. . ." as in "no one else will want him"? ?? also, smokey. . . I think the FSU and Tennessee jobs are the 2 that would be the most likely to pull Brown away, having grown up in Tennessee and having graduated from FSU. I think it's negligible, though, about whether there's more pressure at UF or UT. at UF, I think people realize you're competing against FSU and UM. here in Texas, nobody's trying to hear about ou or atm.
Me too, but unfortunately Capers wouldn't be fired before coaching a game. Also, I doubt Spurrier would leave UF to coach an expansion team, and also remember that Capers has already done it once (expansion process). Spurrier would've been great, but we're fine with what we have too.
