I am wanting some recommendations. What museums you recommend, cool things to see, etc. Another big thing for me... good restaurants! I want to get some seafood...I am assuming they got a bunch of those on the coast. Haha.
Stay out of SE and you should be fine. None of the tourist things are in SE. All of the Museums except the Spy and Holocaust (and perhaps the Native American) are on the Mall, and that's a nice days' walk up and down the Mall...it's windy as hell right now though...and cold too. As a native Houstonian, I hate this weather. Shopping and Nightlife are Georgetown. Adam's Morgan is nightlife. Bethesda is posh and the only happening nightlife there now is Union Jacks (more of a college crowd, generally preppy, but still a lot more diverse than Htown). I love Htown's diversity, but it generally comes in 4 colors and 3 languages...and that's nothing compared to DC diversity...which is great if you like girls from all cultures and races. You can truly get a world sampling around here. Old Town Alexandria is authentic and nice. Has a european village feel to it. Georgetown has the same look, but you can tell it's fake cause it's full of rich people and chain stores. Old Town Alexandria...that's all mom and pop stuff. Bethesda is authentic too, but expensive. try AOL's cityguide or citysearch or tripadvisor for other recommendations there are tons of restaurants here with good food, so try something with a view because that would be a unique experience...something on the waterfront
Regarding restaurant seafood, get the soft-shell crab. It's incredibly good. The crabcakes are very good too. Other than that, Houston has better seafood than D.C. The Smithsonian is a national treasure. If you won't be going back on a regular basis, spend a day or two there. I would also do the White House tour, though it may not be as good as before 9/11.
