Lately, they have been in the News with some sketchy stuff and I wonder if this is going to be their New Normal since I don't remember them making so much News in the past.

Parents demand accountability after teen was attacked at basketball game between rival schools

Parents of a teenager who was violently attacked after a high school basketball rivalry game took their concerns to the Spring Branch ISD school board Tuesday night, demanding justice and accountability.

The assault occurred on Feb. 4, 2025, after the varsity basketball game between Stratford High School and Memorial High School, a long-standing rivalry that spans decades. The game, played at a neutral site, ended in violence when a Stratford student was ambushed in the parking lot, according to the teen's parents.

Heidi Harris, the victim's mother, says her son is still recovering from injuries sustained in what she describes as an unprovoked attack that happened in the parking lot of the Spring Branch ISD's Don Coleman Coliseum.

"He has a head injury," Harris stated. "Our son was at a school event and it is very jarring as a parent to have your child attacked."

According to Harris, her son was walking to his car, wearing his Stratford High School green, when the high school junior was suddenly struck from behind, thrown to the ground, and then repeatedly punched and kicked.

"This type of criminal behavior in the name of school sports rivalry is insanity," she said.

Harris and her husband addressed the school board, recounting the trauma their son endured.

"Can you imagine how frightening it must be to get attacked by a gang?" they asked, expressing frustration that no one has been held accountable despite two weeks passing since the incident.

"We are worried that with the passage of time, this assault will be swept under the rug, allowing them to literally hide behind their masks."

Harris says a group of five or six Memorial students, wearing ski masks, carried out the attack while many others watched. The assault only ended when Stratford High School Principal Raymorris Barnes intervened to rescue her son.

Since the attack, tensions between the two schools have escalated. The Memorial High School Booster Club presidents have issued an apology for an insensitive post, and there are growing calls for a Memorial High School student organization allegedly involved to be disbanded.

Spring Branch ISD has confirmed the incident is under investigation but has not provided further details. The Harris family acknowledges the district's compassion but insists that more must be done.

"We want justice, accountability, and adequate punishment for those responsible."

Only on 13: Authorities execute 2 search warrants to collect evidence in Memorial HS plot

Authorities executed two search warrants on Friday as they tried to collect evidence in the cases against two teenage girls accused of plotting to blow up Memorial High School.

Since the arrest of a 15-year-old in Willis and a 16-year-old in Spring Branch ISD on Tuesday, investigators have been working to get a search warrant signed by a judge. ABC13 was the only media present when both search warrants were executed.

Around 10 a.m. on Friday, the 16-year-old made an initial appearance in juvenile court. An associate judge determined the girl should stay in custody, with another hearing in two weeks. Her court-appointed attorney did not want to talk on camera.

Then, around noon, a number of undercover federal agents and uniformed officers from several agencies swarmed into a townhome complex just a few blocks from Memorial High School.

Investigators thought the girl lived at that address with her mother.

When we knocked on the door, a man inside claimed he knew nothing about the threats at Memorial High School.

The same man opened the door for police when presented with a search warrant. However, investigators left just minutes later because they were told the girl did not actually live there.

Investigators say she apparently used the address, which
belonged to a relative, to attend Memorial High School in Spring Branch ISD. Investigators had to get a second search warrant because the girl actually lived in southwest Houston, zoned to HISD.

Around 2 p.m., armed with a new search warrant, investigators went to a second home in Southwest Houston. This time, they located the right home, and spent several hours inside collecting evidence and taking photos.

Investigators left around 5 p.m. on Friday. At this point, it is unknown what evidence was gathered from the home. Neighbors told ABC13 they rarely saw the girl, but that her mother was a wonderful and kind person.
