I know that there are other Sprewell threads out there, but I think the issue deserves another look in the wake of the news about Sura's back and Glover's kneee. I think we should bring him in. It's clear that he's no longer good enough to be a quality 35 minutes a night player in the league. But neither are Wesley, DA, Barry, or Bowen. If you feel that he'd be an upgrade over any of those guys, and he'd be willing to accept a 1 year deal, I think you need to sign him. Sure, Spree always carries some risk, but he was great for JVG before and now he has something to prove - it's a good risk. We need a true backup SF anyway, especially with TMac hurting (Bowen is horrible in my opinion).
It seems that teams may be waiting for the 10-day contract option to be available. At this point, I don't think we have much to lose to give him a shot.
I don't actually feel he'd be an upgrade over any of those guys, and this team doesn't need to get older.
I read that Spree wants no less than a 2 year deal worth in excess of $7 M. I don't want to root for him, never liked him, and never will.
Good find. But at the same time, you never really know what to believe when an agent says it. Spree sitting out a year, at his age, could only hurt his value. He'll play somewhere this year.
Give him a two year deal because this years Championship hopes seem glim and given next yr. we will be without Deke Barry Wesley Sura, sooo What do we do?
2 year deal? this guys game is fading fast. if anything he would be a band-aid for a year. who's to say we won't have those 4 players next year? nothing is set is stone yet. i will admit that sura and barry will probably retire. but wesley and deke will be back, unless wesley is traded.
He looks better out there than Anderson and Wesley. Which means he is only slighty better than craptastic. Nothing to lose. Team needs a spark.
I really don't care if the Rockets sign PeeWee Herman at this point as long as he can shoot better than what we have now (which isn't much). I say we all chip in and bring Sprewell here and donate him to the Rockets since the Rockets org. doesn't look like they are going to make any trades soon. I am tired of all this "it's early, they need time to gel" talk... you don't need time to gel to make shots from the perimeter. It's been long enough to get out of a shooting slump.
Desperate times may call for desperate measures but I refuse to believe that things have gotten this desperate after only 10 games. Sprewell is still unemployed for a reason. I voted Nay because this team has more than it's fair share of aging 30 somethings whose game are on the decline.
At this point, it wouldn't be a bad pickup at the minimum...especially since Sura could possibly miss the rest of the season.
I'm cool for a one-year deal. He knows JVG's system and hopefully can help the other new guys learn the system that much quicker.
