What about Latrell Sprewell, the Knicks want to get rid of him why not grab him? They would probably want to dump charlie wards contract with him..... Spree/Ward for KT/Mooch/Cato/Walt +/- toronto's #1 PG- Steve/Ward SG- Mobley/Torres SF- Spree/Rice PF- Griff/Taylor C- Willis/Griff Sprewell can provide offense as well as great defense, imo he is the best 3 defender in the league. He is a 19pt/4reb/4asst player. Knicks would get a good backup/starting PG, a starting C, a backup PF, and a 3 pt shooter of the bench. Would you do this trade?
I would love to see that happen. I think he would motivate others on the team with the way he hustles night after night. And provide veteran leadership on the court. Something Glen cant do, at least not this year anyway.
Spree is 6-5...I would not do this trade. We need some size up front and this basically pawns off everybody over 6-5 except Griff and MoT. That would leave us anemic and we could never compete against the western forwards.
the knicks are not looking to get rid of spree unless they get a star. They have enough overpaid bench players.
What do you want? a Tim Duncan? or a Shaq? we can't compete with the western forwards because all of them are taken. We can get some size in the upcoming draft maybe a C. But we are in a log jam at PF we already have size. And the only good C in the whole league is shaq, whom nobody can guard. Let the C be our weakest position, isn't every NBA team's C weak anyway? We are currently over the cap for the next 2 years. So we can't lure in a big name FA (i.e. Duncan, Jermaine O'neal, McDyess). Rather than looking for size, I say we get a good SF with defense and can shoot the rock so when Francis/Mobley gets doubled he'll get either an open shot or penetrate to the basket. Griffin, will be our PF/C of the future, but right now he can't compete with Duncan, Webber or Sheed. All we can do now is wait till he develops into an all-star PF/C. We don't need anymore size up front. We will have Griffin/Taylor and this upcoming draft. That is enough.
Spreewell is a thug/scorer. He plays passable defense. Sounds a lot like Mobley. Slightly bigger, slightly less quick. Except Mobley's not a thug. I would not do this deal.
Please God, no...part of the reason there have been continual Houston or Spreewell trade rumours for a couple of years is that neither is really a SF...they both are pretty much pure SG's, and both carry hefty contracts and declining skills. What we do not need is another trade with the Knicks for a diminishing return and big price tag. And we would be playing him out of position, even if the asking price wasn't dissuasive.
We do not need Latrell Sprewell-I would be concerned about team chemistry. He would be a disruptive force. I do respect his game- but I don't want him as a Rocket.... New York will want too much. I would give New York Glen Rice and Moochie for Othella Harrington.
I would love spree but if we got him but he makes too much and we don't have any pieces we can afford to lose for him.No question he could be a leader we're missing.I think in this next draft we really need to get the best leader out there.Sometimes they are not the best of players, but could be available in the 2nd round.SF or C either or both.We have to find that leader next year in Steve or draft or in FA.
I'm not suggesting we necessarily bulk up. I'm suggesting we shouldn't "bulk down" with this suggested trade. We lose Cato, KT and Walt. All three of which give us some size that's we lose. We are already have the 2nd worst front court production in the league. This trade would unload a very productive KT and a developing Cato. Walt has always been productive and gives us added size to matchup with some of the taller and bulky PF's. We'd get nothing in return to fill those roles. Spree would make a better SG. Cat and Steve can both play SG just fine. Torres can even play SG sufficiently and will get better.
1) We will lose Walt this off-season. Hes too old to resign. Plus we have G.Rice. 2) Why do you guys think soo highly of Cato now? Just before this season you guys would do anything to get rid of his him and his contract. I would rather pick up a center in this years draft instead of having Cato and his 7 mil a year contract. 3) KT is expendable because MoT has been injured this entire year, when he comes back KT is out of the picture. 4) If we do trade for better front court... how will KT/Cato/Walt/Mooch get you a dominant PF or C? Maybe an average PF or C but not a good one. Yes we have the 2nd worst front court.... but what can we do about it? We can't get a high-priced FA who can make an impact immediatly. Our only way of boosting our front court is by letting Griffin develop, hope Taylor rebounds from his injury, or by the draft.
Improve should be the right answer, but as you point out, we can´t get a impact player in that position right now. However, I don´t think that giving Thomas (our best frontcourt player so far this season) and Cato (when he finally is playing the way he´s supossed to play) is the correct move. You talk about Taylor, but he´ll be coming off an injury and that is a concern, and the draft pick could be anything, we don´t know the position in the lottery, less the players that will be available.
For such a player as Sprewell I will add even Mobley to this trade! Imagine a champions' line-up like this: PG- Steve/Ward SG- Spree/Torres SF- draft pick/Rice PF- Griff/Taylor C- Willis/Griff
Ok, so.... you think this is a better move. Start Taylor in front of Thomas next season... watch our soon-to-be star player get less minutes because of the log jam at PF. Take a chance on Cato (and his 7 mil a year contract) hope he doesn't get injured like he does every year. Yes hes playing mediocre this year but would you want to depend on him every year? I would rather take a C in this draft, who will get paid 5 times less than him and will maybe have the same production. i.e. Cato - 25 mins. 6.8 pts 6.9 rebs less than a block per game. Brendan Haywood is putting up those kinds of numbers in less minutes.
No way, Sprewell is a problem player just like barkey who messed up the Rockets championship years. Forget him and let's get someone that is worth it. Like Shawn Marion.
