    - Feel like they have a special group of guys who, along with the coaching staff, should be credited for how well they have been playing.

    - Tough part of schedule when Yao went out and hoped they could play .500 ball through January.

    - TMac has always been superior in passing and getting others involved, even back in his Orlando days.

    - JVG feels Rafer's ability to get to rim, even if he doesn't finish as well as everyone hopes, still is good because it takes a couple of guys towards him and leaves put backs for Deke and others.

    - Talked positively about Rafer's 37% 3pt. shooting.

    - Don't want to diminish anything that the guys have done, but have not done anything yet but get off to a great start on getting a good playoff spot. Have to keep working day to day and keep improving.

    - Don't think JVG doesn't get enough credit on his rotations and lineups.

    - Bonzi's play pushed Battier to the 4 more, TMac playing more 2-guard, Luther at the point and backup minutes reduced for the young guys.

    - CD has been very active and underated in his ability to make a deal. Every GM is open to talking with him because he isn't trying to just rip off the other team in trade talks.

    - Adding a guy to the team would hurt the chemistry a little which is a gamble.

    - There are no good big men in the league available. If they were to bring in someone, would be a guy that could just play minutes at the 4 and 5.

Dennis pretty much said we are staying pat which is good.

    Yao/Deke
    Hayes/Howard
    Battier
    T-Mac
    Alston

Head plays 1 and 2 Bonzi plays 2 and 3

That is 9 with Deke getting limited min.

The rest of the bench is filled with pretty class/professional guys and if we make a move it will be to fill Sura's spot and to provide insurance at the 4-5

This is a good move keeping this group together IMO.

Doesn't sound as if much is going to happen in the way of a trade, which is fine with me.

Still wondering what's going to happen with Kirk. JVG did say it was going to be difficult to play he and Bonzi.

It isn't fine with me. We are deluding ourselves if we don't acknowledge teams will exploit our PG weakness to the max in the playoffs. I still think we are going to do something and the lack of mention by Lindsey was to protect Rafer's fragile confidence.

No question adding a player is a gamble to the chemistry. I mentioned in another thread that maybe getting a guy like Scot Pollard (2.2M expiring) would be a guy they might be able to get. He played last night for Cleveland but in general is getting very little playing time (he's their 5th big). He would be solid at the backup 5 for insurance purposes and wouldn't rock the boat. Plus has has that sweet mohawk! ;)

Chucky Atkins at backup PG (3M expiring) is someone they could look at too if they felt that Luther wouldn't be able to get it done at backup PG for the latter part of the season. I think it's obvious that the Rockets don't want to depend on Vspan/JL3 at the backup spot this year.

    Howrad + Sura + Snyder + 2007 1st for Pau and filler... :D

I wouldn't mind messing with the chemistry for something like this.

Just because the team is very good and has good chemistry doesn't mean they shouldn't be looking to improve -- this team has holes to fill. They have a screaming need at backup PG and could use inside depth. They have assets (Sura's contract, TE) that become worthless after this trading deadline. Staying pat would be a disappointment for me ... I don't think they will.

Cute, but not available -- under any scenario imaginable (by reasonable minds). So, who is a 4 and/or 5 who might be 'available'?

    Scalabrine
    Cardinal
    Hunter
    Ely
    Najera
    Pollard
    M Rose
    Davis/Mohammed
    KThomas

Agreed. We are playing well (now), but we have to look at the long term at the end of the season. Can we keep playing Deke all of these minutes? Do we need another Big, 4/5? They are looking.
Like you said Clutch, we still need a traditional backup PG. Someone that is comfortable handling the ball. Luther is playing ok there now, but will it hold up against better teams? In the playoffs? Things to consider.

Whatever they do, we won't move any of our rotational players. Like you said, Sura's contract or the TE. And whoever we get, they will have a short contract (either expiring or one more year).

This is a team to like. However, Suns/Mavs are a cut above. Spurs probably, too. Lakes/Jazz/Nugs are as good. Springtime margin is slim to none.

So, stand pat or go for it? Chemistry schemistry. Wins, June wins = chemistry to the max.

If the Rockets make a move in using the TE before it expires they will have till the 15th, so if nothing gets done they will loose the TE for nothing. How much is the TE worth and what can be gain by using it?

while I agree that backup PG and depth at the 4-5 are weaknesses we should address, i agree with Dennis that we are heading into the stretch of the season that any change in the core group will hurt chemistry and we don't want to mess with chemistry while trying to climb up the standings. I get the feeling that Dennis is right, there are no bigs available that we can feasibly get, whether that involves Rox players that are too important to the rotation, or Rox players that other teams won't have a shred of interest in (cmon now, JHo is playing good now but still, no team wants him, especially any deal involving Gasol). I get feeling backup PG is the same dilemma.

I can live with Luther doing backup PG duties for now, and at the 4 JHo, Hayes and Battier when we go small will have to hold up for the stretch run in the season.

I agree completely. I don't think we need to make any drastic moves, but we are in dire need of AT LEAST a backup PG, if not a starter. I'd be happy with a quality backup. No move for a backup PG would disappoint me. I'd love to pull off something like Earl Watkins or Chucky Atkins. I mention them because I think they can be realistically had.

I am thrilled with what we are doing now- but let us not kid ourselves. We need to address the Bench - even if we dont want to disturb the the chemistry etc.

Chemistry makes sense when the skill sets are there- but we are not going to have it easy.

This is not boding too well for our title chances.

Tmac and YAO will domintate their respective spots but Let us not forget Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix and Utah ( and to an extent Denver)- these guys are not going to roll over and play dead.
