- Gives CD props on acquiring TMac a few years ago and Battier this year. - Thinks more than likely a trade will happen before the deadline as well as around when the TE expires (Feb 15 I think he said). - Looked at some moves around when Yao went down but Deke's play has made a move less urgent which helps because other teams will take advantage of your urgency. - Are getting to a point in the season that, if a team wants to make a move, they have to make a move. - Expects Bonzi to contribute more throughout the rest of the season. Continues to get better and better. Only 8 or so months out from being the best player in the playoffs last year. - Rafer is most effective from the 3pt line and when he is not shooting off the dribble. Above average 3 pt. shooter. Not one of the best finishers but he has been working on it and expects it to get better. Asks him to shoot from his spot more, which he is doing and does well when spotting up getting shots from TMac. - The organization's opinion on VSpan hasn't changed. There is a reason they signed him to a three year deal. Needs time to adjust to the NBA, etc. Has the ability to penetrate from the perimeter which is an area he thinks the team needs to improve on as they move on. - Talent for the upcoming draft is certainly higher this year than last. Should be able to get a solid and productive player in the range they probably will be since players with 'potential' go earlier. - Yao's timetable to return is still on track but there is always a question about how well it will heal and how fast it will heal because of his size. - A lot of talk about high schoolers who have come out in the past and what type of success they have had, team's thought process when drafting a high schooler. - Caller asked about TMac's defence. Said his defence is pretty good and joked that JVG would find a way to sit TMac if he didn't play D. Number 1 defence in the league and wouldn't be that way if TMac didn't play good defence.
Nice summary thanks Another Move?? I dont think we can get enough value if we trade Vspan or JL3 Dont think it will be Head since he is our most reliable 3pt specialist Sura and/or Snyder?? IT sounds like He wants Bonzi on the team for the playoffs
Good stuff, I'm assuming that if they expect Bonzi to contribute more that means he'll be here and not traded. I look forward to the additions come Feb. Hopefully a PG and atheletic PF/C.
Let the speculation begin/continue as to who will be involved in that trade. It almost certainly won't be anything spectacular, and it will probably disappoint most of us. (i.e. - Battier trade) If a trade goes down, it'll be a Morey trade IMO. Possibly shipping out Snyder, TE, maybe VSpan for some PG that we don't have very high hopes for?
What are you going to get for Sura and the TE? Does anyone REALLY need to clean up their cap that much?
Doesn't matter. I just don't see a scenario where trading any of our other players would make sense, expecially since it seems the chemistry is so good. Seriously, trade Snyder? Why? And who for? He's like our only athletic tall wingman.
hopefully and probably the trade will be for a frontcourt player, especially given comments from jvg about how we are crowded in the backcourt but shallow at f/c and are at a disadvantage when chuck has to play the 5
Maybe Padgett + Sura for Chucky Atkins and whatever? It really doesn't appear that the Rox want to get rid of JL3, VMac, or Head. You can't move Hayes or Deke unless you get a guy or guys who play the same positions in return, and then how have you helped yourself? There's no way they let Howard go now, as he has played unbelievably well since Yao's injury, and Bonzi cannot return good enough value. Mayyybe Snyder, as he appears to be this year's version of Derek Anderson, but I hope not, I believe the guy has some good value for this team in the future. He can become a real beast. Doubtful you send Novak packing, especially with Padgett NOT doing what he was brought in here to do. Our biggest need is someone to share minutes at PG with Rafer, and Chucky Atkins is probably the guy they are targeting. If Memphis is smart they will just start trying to make room now for next year, and taking on a guy they can dump and a basically-retired guy who comes off the books next eyar would allow them to do that.
Trading snyder does not make business sense. Why would you do that? Good to hear from The de facto GM that Bonzi and Vspan will be here. ( I never take these things seriously!) I see little or no role for Scott Padget. We have the TE and Sura. Jeff Foster would be an upgrade on Hayes and a future Back up for Deke. Ely should be a good PF addition Or we can just add to a bench player who is a good shooter. Or a back up PG who is a good defender/Shooter.
Exactly. Snyder's not part of the rotation, and trading him won't ruin the chemistry. Still, other teams would be interested in Snyder. The only hope of getting something worthwhile at all would be to give up something at least quasi-valuable. Would you rather trade Head or Battier? I'm not really espousing a trade. But if Morey is saying there's going to be one it makes sense to try to put the pieces together. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if Bonzi were traded, because obviously other team are/would be interested in him, and right now we're not getting a lot of actual production out of him. Still, I have a gut feeling that they're going to give Bonzi more time to work his way into the system.
this sounds like 2 seperate trades. one using the TE, and another moving a guard from the roster. i doubt we trade head, snyder or bonzi. i even doubt that we trade lucas or billy. i think it will just be sura who will be baught out by his new club. sounds like both trades will add to the front court. that doesn't have to mean a C/F. may a post player with a SF. anyway, i'm off to the espn trade machine to invent some speculation! I'll brb
i agree with both points. i woulnd't be surprised if he got traded (rumors of him to the pistons for a big guy), but it sounds like they want him to work out. everytime anyone from the front office talks about bonzi, they allways are talking about the playoffs. "we hope he can work out for the playoffs." "we hope he will be able to contribute later in the season." i don't think they will move him, only because they are willing to wait and see how he fits once he's in shape. also, because of the potential bonzi breakup (if not in FEB, then in the '07 summer) snyder is really important to keep around. young, athletic, and great size. we have no one else like him on the team. we need to keep him around. i know you dissagree with the possibility of trading sura, but "balacing the roster and bringing in front court help with the TE" doesn't mean he will be traded. sura could be cut in order to add someone with the TE. league rules say that you must have a roster space available for every player traded for. in order to add anyone with the TE we would have to cut someone. sura is most likely to be cut because of his inability to play.
I doubt they trade Snyder or Bonzi. These guys are both valuable pieces because of what they bring to the table, and the flexibility they give you. Snyder is not part of the rotation now, but he was and I'm guessing he will be down the road. I hope the front office realizes that Snyder will be a great tool to use when playing the Small/Big lineups of Dallas/Phoenix. He'll provide JVG with another big defensive body, who can slash and create. I think Atkins can be had for Sura's contract and a pick, or the TE. He's a FA next year and Memphis knows he's gone, and so does every other team in the league. They could then use the TE for a guy like Ely or someone in that mold. Playoff Roster? PG - Rafer Alston/Chucky Atkins SG - Tracy McGrady/Luther Head/Bonzi Wells SF - Shane Battier/Kirk Snyder PF - Juwan Howard/Melvin Ely/Chuck Hayes C - Yao Ming/Dikembe Mutombo That's 12. You can have one more...either Novak/V-Span/JLIII or a Center they add via trade?
