I caught a little bit of a Boki interview on Sportsradio 610 with Rich Lord and David Dalati. It too place somewhere between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m., but I didn't get a chance to post until now. I started listening in the middle of the interview, but I'll see if i can remember some of the main points: - asked whether or not he and JVG had discussed his role for next season. Boki said that they hadn't really discussed it. JVG had told him that he hadn't really seen him play a lot, but that he'd have a better idea after seeing him play, practice, and work in training camp -asked what his expectations were as far as minutes and amount of contribution. Boki said that he didn't know what to expect and that he wasn't really concerned about how many minutes he plays...whether its 5, 20, or 30 minutes. Just as long at the end of the game they say, "Boki really helped us win that game." - asked what kind of player he saw himself being in the NBA. Boki said that he wasn't just a shooter. In fact, he kind of said that he wasn't necessarily a good shooter. He was talking about how some games he shot for really high percentages and other times it just wasn't there. Boki REALLY seemed to go on about this a lot. He sees himself more as a player that can do lots of things. If he had to think of NBA players that he wanted to mold himself after it would be players like Toni Kukoc, Grant Hill, and Scottie Pippen...all players that could do a lot of things to help the team out and make all of their teammates better. -asked about the kind of practices that JVG and his staff ran. Boki said how the practices were pretty rough. They were having two-a-days...3.5 hours in the morning and then 3.5 hours in the afternoon. He said that they worked a lot on defense during the practices and that the Rockets were definitely going to be a better defensive team. He said that the offense definitely won't be a static offense...lots more movement, passing the ball, and hopefully open shots. Boki said that the coaches were a lot more strict, and the he was used to it from the coaches in Europe. He said that he was hopeful that the rest of the team would transition well to the new coaching staff and their methods. That's pretty much all I got.
Excellent re-cap. Thanks for taking the time. Yeah, one thing about Boki is that I think one aspect has gotten blown out of proportion: the legendary ( mythical?) shooting exhibition he put on for the Rockets brass...it may have been the basis for our selection of him, I don't know, but other than that most of the pre-draft reports I heard about the guy went on about his athleticism, his handle, and his all around game...and from watching him in SL, he has those aspects. But I think we have pigeon holed him as a shooter, and I'm not sure that that's what he is...yet.
I don't know, but I'm quickly into not being a boki fan....... I was under the impression that all he needed was minutes.....and reps, but after further review, and a few summer league games I am completely not impressed.......seriously guys......I was watching the summer league at my boys crib and I saw alot of the new rookies tearing it up, Bosh, Reece Gaines, in Orlando, Keith Bogans, and a few other Rookies were playing really well.....my keyword being rookies Boki is a second year player with a ton of talent, and he looked terrible guys.......ON THE REAL!!!!!! Boki should be showing his ass at the summerleague guys, he should have been more ready to show his worth and take full advantage of this oppurtunity, but he hasn't, and that troubles me, he really didn't look good. if you guys get a chance watch some summer league teams, not just the Rockets, and see what I'm talkin about, alot of the teams are playing really well, and the Rocks look horrible......... Are we cursed or what, If Nachbar was on somebody elses summer league team he'd be averging 25 ppg........
Condensed version. He is full of it, he will never amount to any of the players he says his game is patterned after and is still a wasted pick.
kukoc, pippen, both his heroes. both that point-foward, all around player type mold. all these trades for lamar odom, bleh, lets mold this guy right here. hehe, i know thats asking too much, but i really want nachbar to be an important piece here oneday.
Thanks! A good read. It seems like JVG is just the kind of coach as we have heard he was. No nonsnese. 3.5 hr in the morning and 3.5 hr in the afternoon, that is some kinds of practice. Well, I wish Cato, MoT and Mooch were also in the summer league, that way they can keep their asses in shape...
from MacBeth: Wasn't it Clutch who raced back last year from training camp in Austin and posted the results from Steve's challenging Boki to a shooting contest in which Boki smoked him?
TheHorns, on this one you are only TheHorn. As a fellow Texas Ex, give Bostjan a fair shot before you gore him. Two summer league games does not constitute the big picture. It's kind of like saying you've seen Bastrop so you've seen all of Texas.
I agree with you homie................But.................You got rookies out playin the guy Even TJ is having a good summer league, he's kicked ass today Why can't our 2nd year player with all the skills in the world look so flukish.............
This is the best thing that could happen to the Rockets. 7 hours of practice per day! I don't care how good or bad JVG coaches; getting these young guys 7 hours of supervised repetitions is going to make a huge improvement pretty quickly. There is no substitution for repetitions, and all we used to hear about is how there was no time to practice. I'm getting psyched about the new coaching staff.
See, it's people like you, with all your 'rules' and 'regulations' about what we can and can't do that lead to Nazi Germany!
Well he is already on the Houston Rockets roster for 2 more seasons. Since we let Terence Morris go....and we haven't resigned Posey YET...we have Glen Rice and Bostjan Nachbar. Which one would you go with? We should resign Posey. Boki should be playing at least 12 minutes a game next season....I hope he's not a bust! He still has hope...like EddIE. He sounds like a good speaker.
The Horns do not suck. They made it to the final four this year which is better than 99% of the other NCAA teams. As far as Boki. There are only 2 possibilities. He is either decent or he sucks. Have you seen ANYTHING that would suggest he's the former rather than the latter. Show me.
