I saw Matt Jackson on the Tube, Channel 55 on Saturday Nights. Is it me, or does he need Body Solutions? They keep talking about how Jeremy Foster uses it cause he is one fat mother.
He might be fat but he knows his stuff. I was actually shocked he knew so much stuff. Puts Rich Lord to shame in a major way.
Rich knows his stuff too. Matt is a good guy and he does posses a lot of knowledge, but he doesn't have the personality of Rich or the overall knowledge of Charlie which is what makes Rich and Charlie so good. Jackson is really good at knowing his stats, etc, especially when it comes to football.
I dunno man, I listen to those guys all the time and I've come to the conclusion that Rich knows "his" stuff which is the Giants, Rangers, and Yankees. Charlie is a junkie, he knows all kinds of stuff because it's just in him. Rich is just the comedic relief and sometimes he's not so funny.
I think Matt has a pretty good personality. He definitely has a voice that won't put you to sleep, ala Kenny Hand or Russ Small.
Charlie Palilo can sometimes be more annoying then Jim Rome. I hate it when Charlie and Rich keep on dissing the Rockets. Everytime someone calls to talk about the Rockets they act like its a freakin miracle or something.
Damn, I agree with you so much. I listened to Rich Lord for years and he didn't seem that knowledgable to me, but he had a great personality. I thought Matt and Lance Z (especially Lance) really knew their stuff. Charlie seemed on another level in that he seemed knowledgable about every sport. I liked the Rich/Charlie combo.
This I will agree with. You guys know I've been very critical of hte current crop of Rockets players...but the other day, Charlie took a Rockets call and then said, "that's it...no more rocket calls today." This was about 5PM, meaning the show still had another 2 hours. We live in a city with three pro sports teams...only one is playing right now. We live in a city with one sports station. To say, "hey, we're not gonna talk about the only pro sports team that's actually engaged in play right now," is absurd to me.
Couldn't agree more!!! I thought I was the only one peeved about that. I like the afternoon show in general, but I hate how they treat the Rockets. I am sure that if the Stro's and/or Texans play bad or have a so call "unwatchable" group, they would still spend all their time talking about them. Actually, I think they just don't care much for Basketball, especially Pro ball. You hardly hear them talk about NBA in general, even though we are right smack in the middle of the season. Pitiful!!!
Max: That Charlie "no more Rockets call" thing was a joke. They never get Rockets calls so, when they do, they crack jokes about it. I know both of them and Charlie can be abrasive and Rich can seem out of it. I can't stand that they don't really have it together on the Rockets. Charlie goes to practically every game and knows a lot but Rich really doesn't. There are times when Rich will say something about the Rockets that I know is way off and I just cringe. I really want to correct it. But, that's just the nature of the stuff. Until the Rockets become more of a topic on their show, they aren't going to pay much attention.
huh...i guess the joke went over my head!! charlie took a little bit of heat from david (fill in for Rich that day) for the decision.
Charlie probably should have. He can be wierd sometimes. Like I said, I hate the way they cover the Rockets.
I was under the impression that the Rockets stuff they bring up is for two reasons: 1. They don't get many Rocket calls anymore. 2. When they do, people in general stop calling. Interest gone. Which is why when they do the 'no more Rocket calls' I always consider it a joke....that points out that no one ever wants to talk to them about the Rockets anymore. I think Matt is solid too...but the guy must live at the freakin' station.
Once again, I must help you guys out when you b**** about the state of affairs in Houston sports talk shows by mentioning the following names : Ed Fowler - dude, take some Ex-Lax. Kenny Hand - (sung to the Wham tune) ~~ wake me up, before you go go, don't leave me snoozin' here with my radio... Ken Silverstein - This dude would start a conversation with himself and it would last 20 minutes. He'd throw in the phrase "vis a vis" about 40 times for effect. He had to be the absolute worst in Houston sports talk. Dan Patrick - Oh dear God, no wait... this is the worst. I swear every morning he took a dump his IQ dropped. I shouldn't be so harsh on him, though, since he does/did a great job with the Be An Angel fund. Probably a nice guy, but as a sports talk show host he's revolting.
Nate's last name IIRC was Griffin or Griffith. If you remember Lance had a Fantasy Sports show from 8-10 after Nate's show. If you're going back in 610 history don't forget Mike Edmonds and Ed Fowler in the morning from 6-9, and anyone else remember Michael P. Davis and the "Star 610 Scoreboard Show", before they added Wexler? Rob
