I was cleaning out my closet the other day and came across a collection of newspapers and magazines with major sporting events from the past decade or so. I used to be good about getting the sports page and magazines to collect when major events occur but I don’t do it as much anymore. It was pretty cool to go down memory lane and see all the stuff that happened: From the Rockets championship runs, to other great events in the NBA to World Cups.

Anyone collect similar items? Here’s the list of what I have:

Houston Chronicle – 2005 Playoff Preview
    " " – 2003 Yao vs Shaq: Act I
    " " – 2002 E. Smith breaks the rushing record
Sports Illustrated – 2002 Brazil wins ‘02 World Cup
    Four-Four-Two – 2002 World Cup commemorative issue
World Soccer – 2002 World Cup commemorative issue
Houston Chronicle – 2000 Titans come up a yard short in Super Bowl XXXIV
    " " – 1999 Spurs win first title
    " " – 1999 Gretchsky - “The Great One” retires
    " " – 1998 Playoff Preview
    " " – France wins ‘98 World Cup
Sports Illustrated – 1998 France wins ‘98 World Cup
USA Today – France wins ‘98 World Cup
The Express – 1998 World Cup Recap
Houston Chronicle – 1997 Playoff Preview
Chicago Tribune – 1997 Bulls win 5th title
Sports Illustrated – 1997 Tiger wins the Masters
Sports Illustrated – 1997 Mike Tyson bites piece of Hollifield’s ear off
Houston Chronicle – 1996 Cowboys win 3rd title in 4 years
" " – 1996 Magic Johnson returns to the Lakers
    " " – 1996 Hakeem blocks # 3,189 to pass Kareem
    " " – 1996 Playoff Preview
Sports Illustrated – 1996 Bulls commemorative championship issue
    Houston Chronicle – 1995 Bulls win 70
    " " – 1995 Playoff Preview
Houston Post – 1995 Jordan returns (1st time) sporting #45
Sports Illustrated – 1995 Rockets commemorative championship issue
Sports Illustrated – 1994 Rockets commemorative championship issue (Houstonians had to b*tch and complain for SI to finally make one)

    I have:

Post and Chronicle from the day after the 1994 title and the Sunday edition after the 1994 title

Chronicle from the day after the '95 title and Sunday edition

I also have the special sections from the Chronicle for Enron Field, Reliant, and the Toyota Center.

Rivaldo, are you sure that's the Post you have from 1995? I'm pretty sure the Post was out of business by then. I know for sure that the Post was gone before the 1995 title, but I'm not sure about Jordan's return...

I have ALL the '94 Houston POSTs, the Houston-only after the controversy SI magazine, and other stuff like the CHallenger explosion stuff.

I will photograph some of this at home and then post some pics.

I also have the "HOW SWEET IT IS" special poster from the post in the garage.

Forgot to add that I have most of the '94 I BELIEVE banners in RED and white and YELLOW and RED on the back.
OMG. I went to a poor, low-budget HISD high school. Dang rich Katy high schools...

    ;)

It was my rich Trig/EA teacher that brought it in. I just mailed in my last couple of months in all my classes. :D

I'm pretty sure it was the Post but I can go and check again.

It's cool to see that I am not the only. I felt kind of weird at first when I found all the stuff. It was cool to look back and see all the great sporting events that happened (especially seeing the Rockets at the top of the standings for a change ;) ).

Yeah, I used to get to school early b/c the bus got there so damm early and reading the sports page. It's not like that anymore with the internet. I guess it could be but it's so much easier/convenient to read it online.

Well, that must have been spring semester of 1995, because the Post went out of business on April 18th of that year. ;)

That WAS after Jordan's return, though, so it probably is a Post that Rivaldo has. That was probably the last major sports story the Post ever ran...

I checked it and it is from the Post, dated March 20th 2005 so it was right before it went out of publication.
