The panel that chose this list included 76 current and former players, coaches and GMs. For example, Daryl Morey was included in that panel.

Kobe Bryant was top on the list, but as far as Rockets go: Kevin Martin came in at #45, but it surprised me, even with the injuries, that Yao Ming was behind him at #48.

Kevin Martin is there, but no Monta Ellis.

I'm a bit surprised. I guess people were taken away by Martin's efficiency numbers.

I guess that is one way to look at it... for some reason, I just figured if he was on the list, he should be higher. Even Hedo Turkoglu is higher on the list than Yao.

I think the voters interpreted the ranking in different ways. Some may have listed their top 50 for last season. Some may have listed their top 50 for the upcoming season. For some, a mixture of both.

And I think we were more optimistic about his return than most people on the outside.

Well he did fall from 15 to 48. I just don't agree with some of the players on the list in general: Carter, Hedo (as you mentioned), and even Shaq. All of those players are ranked higher than Yao and Kmart. Steve Nash is not the number 9 player, even if he is the best pg in the league. I think there's a great degree of error to this...

Yea didn't mean to say he shouldn't be on the list but suprised the "experts" would put him on the list, not playing at all for so long. I think Durvasa is right in that they assumed Yao would be back at a realtivly high level this season but weren't sure how high so placed him behind guys like Jamison and Hedo.

LOL I see guys like Z-Bo in the TOP 30, guys like Hedo Turkoglu in the list, yet I don't see my main man Luis "The Ice Cream Man" Scola... Whats up with that?
20ppg - 10rbp not enough in the NBA anymore?!

What that list shows is how futile it is to think we can trade for a top ten or top 20 player.

Carmelo wants to play in NY.
Nash would be traded to a contender, out of respect.
Chris Paul is winning and probably willing to stick around.

It has become increasingly obvious that the type of player the Rockets need will have to be drafted, because I don't see any other realistic scenario.

And if that's the case, if you believe that superstars win championships (and I do) and that it's extremely unlikely Houston can trade for that type of player, what other alternative is there other than tanking?

No one has talked about him yet... what is John Wall doing on this list???

Wall has the tools to be great, no doubt, but the media is hyping him to death, and as a b-ball fan, I dislike this treatment, let them prove they are great, and stop making bold predictions about players with huge talent.

I like Z-Bo in there, I think he has been underrated for quite a while.

I usually compare Joe Johnson to Big Al, there was a season where both were extremely underrated, but after those, the league started giving credit to both, but with a difference, they gave Al his true value, and started overrating Joe, there is no way he is top 20 in this league, in my view

And finally, unfortunately, Roy will never be the player he once was, and top 20 for him right now is pushing a little, but even seeing him playing 50% of himself, you can see how talented he is.

I liked the little prize they gave to Yao, he deserve the leagues respect, let´s hope his body can handle the physicality of the game.

And yes DD, Melo is number 6 in the league, and he will be a Houston by December 15th....

This showed how bad the Rockets roster is.

It is a miracle that Morey assembled such a crappy losing and no-future team and still being praised.
