NEW V-Span Blog (Translated) "Good morning to everyone from LA! I am really starting to like the whole blog thing because it's the most direct way to communicate with you. Not only with sport24.gr readers but lately with the Rockets fans here in the US. I say this because last time I posted, the whole blog was translated in english within a few hours and posted at a Rockets fans forum (translator's note: gooooooooooooo clutchfans ). Obviously, some crazy (translator's note: greek way of speaking, he means it in a nice way) greek-american had this idea and when I saw it translated to English (translator's note: so he DOES read clutchfans) I was very pleasantly surprised and very impressed. It is very important as well that in every city we go to with the Rockets, Greeks approach me and show me their love. When you're this far away from home, it's really important when that happens and I sincerely wanna send a big thank you to all our basket-loving compatriots who live in the US. As you probably know, we are currently in LA for the game vs the Lakers and I'm sure the first thing you guys want me to comment on are Kobe Bryant's unreal games. Exactly as I said: unreal. From the 81 points vs the Raptors to this year's four in a row 50+ games, Kobe is writing his own page in the history of professional basketball. This player cannot be stopped by personal defense but only by team defense. The NBA works more with a one-on-one defense which is why we see him scoring 65 in a single game. The hype around his name is, I would say, completely normal, because he is worth being mentioned by the media in their stories and discussed by basketball fans. There is only one thing I don't like: The comparison with Michael Jordan, which is of course inevitable due to the records broken every year by Kobe. There will never be another MJ. Maybe Kobe is the closest there is, however every player is unique and comparisons are pointless... Let's leave this subject however and focus on our team. Soon, the regular season will end and our goal is to overtake Utah Jazz in order to gain home-court advantage. With the season approaching its end, there are no easy games because on one hand, the opponents want to win as many games as possible to get the best record and on the other, players in teams not making the play-offs give everything they got in order to get better contracts during the summer. Because of this, every game is like a final and after the win over the Clippers we will try to do the same against the Lakers. It seems unbelievable to me how quickly the season has ended. Maybe it's the heavy schedule, the constant traveling and the games. If you think about it, this is where the fun starts, and of course I mean the play-offs (translator's note: typical V-Span...he absolutely loves and thrives on important games) where the teams' achievements are measured and we will try our best to do as well as possible to make our fans happy. Now that I remembered, it's very pleasant that Panathinaikos, my old team, has been chosen to play exhibition games against the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs on 11-13th October. Panathinaikos was worth that distinction and I think it was unfair for Greek basketball that Athens was not in the list of cities that NBA teams visited last October. Greece has very well organized teams with great history. Panathinaikos should play NBA teams in games like that, and Olympiakos and even Aris (translator's note: legendary Greek team that put Greek basketball on the map in the 80s, hasn't been doing that well last few years but has started to rise again lately). That's my opinion and I don't think many people would argue. NBA should make a stop at Greece too! So, this is it for now. Once again I want to thank all of you for your e-mails that cheer me up and keep me company. Be well and we will speak again very soon... Vassilis" It is an interesting read... Sorry if I've missed a couple of typos while translating. I'm christening my ability to post new threads with this and will keep it going with new blog translations as they come... Take care everyone, Alex P.S. Original blog is here: http://www.sport24.gr/spanoulis.asp
5-star effort. Thanks for sharing, Alex_Jr. So Vassilis, if you get to read this post, please be assure that you get support from us Chinese fans as well. Now work hard and strive for the playoff spot!
This Alex.Jr, is he a different person than the previous poster of V-span blogs, yes?the translation is near perfect,I kind of miss the old Babelfish As always, the v-span blog is fan favorite, gracias.
I've done a couple of previous ones, but then again so has MadmanGeorge A few others have also done babelfish translations... I'm planning to keep doing them and appending them on this thread... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- In other news: Span's agent claims that Span will be back in Europe next year. To be honest I don't think so....Span stated again the other day to Feigen that he will be here next year and he wants to stay... Span's agent will try to convince him to come back since there are 3 teams prepared to go into a bidding war to get him and that would mean a large amount of money for the agent but I can't see Span giving up so easily at making an NBA career...
So basically we'd have done nothing but the Battier trade for the 2005-2006 offseason if he leaves. What a waste if he quits on us.
Thanks for the translation Alex. good read. Spanoulis has a very good attitude. You have many fans here Vassilis!
No !!! But JVG SHOULD COME TO THE UNDERSTANDING THAT HEAD IS NOT A POINT GUARD BUT A ROLE PLAYER WHO IS A SPOT UP SHOOTER AND should be used in the capacity of what he does best!!
it's too bad that JVG does not think that some players need to be used diff, example Luther, Alston, Bonzi and the rookies....with a little bit more adjustments we could be much more effective, but it is what it is....
Thanks for the translation! Great read, but if he said comparisons are pointless, why did he say he was T-Mac back in Greece? Just kidding, I'm just having some fun. On a serious note though, I hope he's able to be a major contributor next season. I still believe he has the potential to be a good player for this team.
and another thing, its really sad that you never see the Span haters in these kind of threads, at least praising the translator...hint Sextuple Double, SamFisher, blahblehblah, kokopuffs and others
I know you're just kidding but you're propagating a misunderstanding.... His "I was T-mac back in greece" comment was referring to his style of play...Not the "quality". And JVG replied , well "T-Mac is T-Mac here" because he needs Span to play slightly differently. If you look back to JVG's original statements where he said this, he mentions it when he's talking about span's style of play... Even though you're joking, I'm clearing it up for others as well cause it sounds like he is very arrogant when he is not at all...Never has been. He has faith in his ability (hence his jump over to the NBA after only 1 year of truly competitive basketball with Panathinaikos), but he's not arrogant.
