I was at a fitness store today, and "test drove" a spin bike....it was about $700 but on sale for $500. I've always wanted one because I think they are more durable and built better tha recumbent bikes and upright fitness bikes. They are also very very quiet which surprised me.

My question to you guys, do you think it's worth purchasing? I don't want to join a gym to join a spin class because my schedule is hectic and I'd never go, but if I had one at home I could ride it when I wanted.

I know I could buy a road bike for that price, but i don't live in an area where I think I could get the most out of it because there's too much traffic where I live.

Anybody own one or take spin classes have any suggestions? Would you buy one if you had the money and what should I be looking for when buying one?

The spin bikes are cool but you have to buy pads and stuff to keep them up. You could also buy yourself a good new/used bike and add a magnetic or fluid trainer to it. That way you get the trainer but if ever get bored, you can take it for a spin around the hood.

I'd probably buy a used bike because there are millions of people who spend hundreds if not thousands buying a bike they are too lazy/busy to ride. They sell them dirt cheap on ebay and craigslist.

I have one that is currently being used to hang clothes on.

I swear I'll use it again some day.

My wife's uncle invented the Rebock Spin Cycle.
He lives in a freaking mansion near Rio now.
