I think it would be hard to justify giving a GOTY award to a game that's been out for barely a month. Oblivion's been huge for most of the year. I don't really agree with the Patrick Stewart one just because his character wasn't in the game for very long. I imagine it was probably for the beginning monologue, which was suitably epic sounding. If it was going to be someone from Oblivion, I would have chosen Sean Bean. Really though I can't think of anyone who stood out.

2142 wasn't very well received AFAIK (80 rating at Metacritic IIRC). Besides, I think it had to go against games like COD3, Company of Heroes, Gears of War, Oblivion, etc.

Awards were OK outside of a few things. Out of the GOTY candidates, I've only played Oblivion, so I can't comment on if that was a good pick. I loved the game, so I might be biased; still, it is the highest rated game (barely ahead of GOW IIRC) there, so can't complain too much about it. Could have been worse.

Now I just want to know how Oblivion won GOTY but not PC GOTY. That's really confusing.

I guess that's how they cover the Christmas season releases.

The show is on right now...seems pretty bad so far...not that I expected it to be any good (though the awards gave me some hope).

It's disappointing that this has become the only 'award' show linked to gamers. It's a freakin' joke.

At least the games they chose are a little more serious this time. But man...
