The only time South Asians are on ESPN in the US. :D

I was watching the Nat. Geographic bee (i'm a Geography nerd) and 8/12 finalists were either South Asian or East Asian.

Because there's a difference between being able to speak a language and memorizing how words are spelled in it. lol

I did spelling bee in elementary school and got up to the state level, but it was never pushed on me, I just kind of spelled for some reason...

that said, what's really the point of this thing? though they're probably far more intelligent than I, these kids don't seem too well adjusted...

Anyways, with all due respect to Rebbecca, the fainter is one of the baddest dudes in "sports" history. clutch is the perfect word.

Probably because South Asian and East Asian Parents are really demanding and would kick their ass after they got home as losers :D

Asian-Americans students from certain countries are a model minority particularly those from China,India,South Korea however refugees from Laos,Cambodia or Vietnam don't have the same level of economic achievement or educational attainment.

Its not about economies or education. Those countries dont have the english language background that India has. India is unique in that the entire educational system is done in english from top down. If you graduate from high school you will be fluent in english by virtue of the fact that classes are only done in english. It's why customer service always gets outsourced there, because of the large pool of english speakers. Hell its why tons of jobs are outsourced there. There really isnt another country in Asia with that a large pool of people fluent in english.

East Asian countries have comparable economies and even education but none of the base of english that India has.

I'm Indian and did the Geography Bee and Spelling Bee, although my parents really never cared or pushed me. I made state in both and was 1 question away from nationals in the Geo Bee. Although in hindsight I wish I had cared more about them. But I honestly dont envy any of those kids, I dont think I've ever had comparable stress to those bees in 8th grade. It's just brutal pressure.
