You may get extremely fast download speeds at one point in your download because a "seeder" (someone who has the complete file) may be trying to send you a rare piece of the file so that you can share with others. Seeders try to send out rarest pieces first. The more pieces you have and the more you share with others, the faster you'll be able to download. If you have cable/dsl, 90% of the time you'll be downloading at 100+ kbps.
