i just got a speeding ticket for the second time (the first was in december 2003, less than a year ago)...i took defensive driving for that one. is there anything i can do so that my insurance doesn't go up (i was only going 65 in a 55)?
you can ask for deferred adjudification or something like that or even probation that way you will get it dismissed ifyou don't get a ticket within 3 months and they will dismiss it after that.
My roomate has the same problem. She just got a ticket and her last one was back in december 2003, so she can't take the class again.
Well basically when i went to court for HPD, they called me up and they asked me if i wanted to take defensive driving or Probation if i couldn't take defensive driving. Basically the ticket is on your record for 3 months and you get a new court date. If you dont get a ticket for those 3 months then you come back on your court date and they ask you if you did and then they will look it up. If you haven ot recieved one then they will dismiss your ticket and it won't be on your record. Probation is more expensive in terms of court costs and stuff but it is an option. If i am not mistaken Defensive driving was like 125 bucks in court costs while Probatation was over 200. But for someone that can't take Defensive Driving it is a good option and worth it.
You think you have it bad, check out the following article : http://www.usatoday.com/news/offbeat/2004-09-21-speeder_x.htm
yeah i was reading about that earlier...crazy The fastest i have gone is 175 in a friends car which we were racing another car it was crazy...
It was a motorcycle I know it texas if you are going that fast you can be taken to jail if you are that much faster then the posted speed limit.
i got my ticket in travis county (austin)...since my ticket was only 10mph over the limit (65 in a 55) it will cost me $147...so you're saying if i do the probation deal, i pay $200 and it won't go on my record AND it won't increase my insurance?
If you pay the amount that means it goes on your record and i am not sure how much your insurance will go up. That is something you have to talk to your insurance agent about. You have to call up the county you got the ticket and see what different methods they have to get it dismissed. It all just depends on where you got it. I have never got a ticket in that county so ic an't say one way or the other. I just know how HPD works. Sorry if i can't help that much.
Maybe some canadian members of the bbs can answer this: I recently got a speeding ticket in Canada, along with a parking ticket in Quebec. Since I have an American driver's licence, do I need to pay these tickets? Thanks
just tell the people in quebec that you couldn't read the NO PARKING sign because it was in french...
That's pretty legit. I did 156 once in a Porsche 911 racing a Ferrari...and it was crazy. Oddly, I felt like I was in total control even then, but knew that I was courting death. Forget a mistake by me, if there was a freakin bigger than normal rock on the road, you could be screwed.
You could just pay the $147 and then pay another 30 bucks for a defensive driving class. Then your insurance would both go up and down.... And you'd save 23 bucks. And I'd call the courthouse to check on court fees. All the court fees I've ever had to pay were only $60 a pop. So you might just be looking at spending somewhere around $100 instead of somewhere around $200.
but i thought you couldn't take defensive driving twice in one year (i already took it for a ticket i got in december 2003)
for a speeding ticket, no. for your insurance, yes. You can take defensive driving once every few years "FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES ONLY" and get a discount on your insurance. My parents make the whole family do it so we can save money.
