I stumbled across this Chinese Message board that had a thread (started 8/29) about JVG plays involving V-Span and Battier. I cannot read Mandarin, but there are several images with plays drawn up (they look to be created digitally, not scanned). Each play has a name and a text description of the play. If someone can translate these for us, that would be great. I understand that this is from another message board, so please note that these plays may be completely bogus, or just ideas from a Chinese poster. Even so, it's been a slow month and we're all looking for something to talk about, so at a minimum I thought we could discuss the possibility of using these plays and their potential effectiveness. http://bbs.hoopchina.com/htm_data/30/0608/120642.html Admins: Please lock this up if it detracts from the quality of the BBS. I apologize for posting this if that is the case.
Shaq2Yao: Can you translate the details of each play from the original thread? The plays are a little vague and would make more sense with the descriptions.
I agree... that's why I was hoping for someone to translate the description text that goes along with them in the original thread.
It mainly talks about some new high-post plays using Yao. Which wont happen a lot if JVG is the coach.
according to the poster this is a revised version of princeton's offence he drew around yao at the high post, the 3rd one is a simplified verson coz he thinks the previous 2 is too complicated to run for JVG's rockets.
Did the original poster on the other board claim these are real plays used by the Rockets? I thought the thread starter said these are only plays drawn by a fan for discussion purpose. May be someone who can read chinese can tell us more clearly.
Thanks for the translation vizier... Looks like they were in fact just ideas from a Chinese poster. As far as having Yao on the high screen and roll, I don't mind running that 3 or 4 times a game (especially at the end of a quarter w/ McGrady), but in general I don't want Yao to be pulled that far away from the basket. He seems to have found a groove last year dominating in the low post and that's where I'd like to see him stay.
they should consider the half court jumper on more plays. hell look how easy lebron made those same shots in a powerade commercial.
The first two aren't clear either. You can infer that the idea is to get a pick and roll situation with Tracy/Yao or VSpan/Yao, but the timing of the other player's movements are unclear. To me it looks like people are running through the line while the pick and roll is being executed, and that makes zero sense.
You can tell they are fake from the color distortions on the images. But you need a supercomputer to see it though... Just joking ... it's funny that some guys assumed that the original poster of these plays claimed they were real Rockets plays. These may not be well-designed plays. But what's fake about them?
I understand them easily its all about rotating on the first one raf drops the ball off to t-mac yao sets the screen shane runs to the corner for the 3 or the drive while t-mac takes it to the hole. Spanoulis or the 1/2 guard slashes from the perimeter through the paint to the wing of the perimeter on the opposite side while the other guard replaces him on the wing T-mac makes the decision of what to do with the rock. The 2nd one is pretty much the same except Spanoulis will handle the decision making while yao sets the screen. Rafer makes a cut around shane who is on the perimeter and runs along the bassline shane remains set in the corner in case of an open 3. Tracy is on the wing. i understand the basic idea of this play but its not very definite like the first one, but honestly the first one is very sketchy also but the basic idea of it its loosely based off of the motion/box offensive scheme.
