Lets assume that Rockets and Rashad have this agreement (although not official )that he will resign with the Rockets once traded, will Rockets be a better team if we do this trade?
I'm a big fan of Rashad.. but really, he's only a marginal upgrade over Mario Elie--I don't think he's shown enough on Inside Stuff to be any more than that. He's never shown any play-by-play or color abilities.. so I don't think Battier and Head would be worth giving up. Now if Rashad could spend an offseason or 2 training with Calvin Murphy to up his stock, I think we may have a deal. Hopefully Rashad makes a lot more than every other announcer--otherwise this won't work under the CBA.
You know, you can point to the obvious reasons (Yao, injuries) as to why we're such a better team this year and i'm sure 90% of you would make no mention of the significance that Battier has on this team and our success. Throw in the solid shooting and overall play of Head and we have two great role players for a very long time. You can call me crazy but I wouldn't make a deal like that for a talented but flawed star like Rashard. I am all for making a deal that makes us better just so long as one of those two (preferably Battier, if I had to choose) would remain on the team.
Actually I edited the thread title. I'd love to get Rashard Lewis, but I can't see JVG dealing Battier any time soon.
I dunno Rashard seem soft we have too many soft players granted we trade two soft players for one talented soft player but we need some nastiness on this team Rocket River
Luther is just starting to show what he is capable of. This should be even up with cap filler. No #1 included I'll tell ya,I'm really hesitant about trading Luther...PERIOD at this point. ....no way do I trade Battier either. Got to keep those two together!
Rashard would make a great wingman for Yao. He wouldn't have TMac's passing ability, but he's an awesome shooter. I put forth this deal in another thread: Head, Novak, Sura, V-Span, Snyder, and a 1st rounder for Rashard. In theory, you could play TMac, Rashard, and Battier at the same time with Skip and Yao. Who would double team Yao then? You could also take it another step further and play TMac at the point, making room for Bonzi in a crunch time lineup.
I don't think that Van Gundy will have a choice. If the organization has any perspective, they will look to improve the team with the thought of having no Tmac. Substitute Sura for Head in the proposal and sweeten it with a protected first and I think both Seattle and Houston would have to move on that deal.
i agree...no way we trade luther and battier, we need battier, and luther has improved significantly and hes only gonna get better...
and it got laughed out of the thread. sorry dude, but you can't package together that many players and think it's realistic. There are only so many slots available for each team. Plus, your combining unproven rookies, with mediocre talents and thinking we'll get an all star back. Step away from the keyboard, put down the bong, and try to think logically.
that would never work... it would have to be the entire power dance squad, and probably the red rowdies too!
Actually, it was laughed at by one guy who thought we would be giving up too much, in direct contrast to your opinion. So I guess he'd really have a chuckle at your expense. Anyway, genius, if deals like mine never happen, tell me how Detroit got Rasheed Wallace?
If we were to trade Battier away, I'd love to get a guy like Caron Butler personally... but I feel that our SG/SF spot is already solid enough. I still believe we need a legitimate PF, much more than we need Battier. Hayes shows a lot of potential and is a great rebounder, but doesn't have the respect of defenses to distract them from double teaming Yao. I wish there was some way we could get Chris Wilcox from Seattle or maybe take a chance on Ty Thomas from Chicago... maybe even Jamison from the Wizards.
The rockets will be the stupidest club if they do this. And I feel stupid for entertaining this thread.
