The thought of dead peeps coming back to life has always freaked me out. I remember watching the original back in the day and screaming like a little school girl. Turn off your lights and turn the sound way up...I dare you. http://www.dawnofthedeadmovie.net/#
I remember watching the original at the midnight movie. Stuck with me, even with the humor. That's a good flick. Interesting to see them increase the group. The stillborn baby thing was an idea common on fan sites for a while. Once the monsters are out there, it doesn't really matter much why they get that way. They're scary as immenant or hidden threat. It's great paranoid fantasy. Keeping up the story is a little harder. You got to expect the zombies to win. How could people survive and build a new society? I guess within x amount of time, most zombies rot or something. That would thin out the ranks within a year, surely. Are there animal zombies? Man, if so, you couldn't get past killer bugs and rats and stuff, could you? Then again, after a year, normal ecosystems go to hell. I guess I'm just a little interested in how the story would flesh out, as it were.
Interesting to see that the zombies in the remake now move much quickly (ala 28 Days Later) then they did in the original Romero Zombie trilogy. Wonder what made the filmmakers do that. I recently watched the original Dawn of the Dead and thought it was pretty good for a B-film. So while I'm curious about the remake, I have to wonder "Why bother?" Unless this is clearly a creative revision (i.e. improving upon the original while adding new twists), I don't see this as worthwhile (creatively or financially).
I'm just guessing because there is a whole generation of young people who never saw the original and would probably never rent it.
The slow moving zombies has always freaked me out. Just the thought of me being outside somewhere seeing a couple of zombies creeping around a 100 yards away.......man that would scare me. You are so far away you can't tell if it saw you or not.................creepy Now that I think about it, if I saw a dead man sprinting towards me I'm sure I'd freak out just as much.
So YOU say! In high school, me and my friends were all about the greatness that is a Romero flick. Cripes, we even made a couple short zombie movies ourselves back in the day complete with Thriller fight choreography.
Yeah, I am a youngster who wasn't around for the old flick, but I am really looking forward to seeing this one. Never in my life have I been actually freaked out by a trailer, but that one did the trick last night during Along Came Polly. I'm not exactly sure what it was about it, but I had the chills when it was over.
I think this movie is trying to capitalize on the success of 28 days later. That was an amazing movie. The acting, storyline and music was perfect.
But it seems to me that the people most interested in this genre (horror movies) are usually pretty hip to the original. I don't think I can name a single horror movie buff who would be more inclined to see a remake rather than rent the original. If they want to get more people to watch the original, spend 1/100th of the movie budget on a DVD ad campaign. The only time I'm for a remake is when the original was ineffective somehow. For example, The Omega Man is a good movie utterly ruined by a horrible music score. Dawn of the Dead did not need such remaking.
