I've said this before, and hardly anyone seems to notice...So I'll give it one last try, and then try and make myself believe that Marc Jackson is the answer to all our Center needs, and not the latest edition of Ike Austin..Don't think it'll take though...WHY, OH WHY, is virtually NO ONE talking about the rumoured possibility of the Rockets trading for LaFrentz!?!?!?!
Short of getting a real stud 5, I think he's a prototype Rudy-T player, AND he's a pretty good shot blocker to boot. The rumour I heard had KT and filler going to Denver...Now, I ask you, is THAT not worth talking about!?!?!

Do the Nugz want to trade him? I heard they were talking about it 1/2 way through last year, but such talks went quiet towads the end of the season.
Why would they trade him and what would they be asking for in return?

If we could get LaFrentz for KT and possibly Walt, I would do it in a hearbeat.

That would be great! LaFrentz would be a excellent pickup. He hustles and fit in well here. For that trade (WW, KT) I would do it in a minute.

Um, one second guys. Why in the world would Denver trade us LaFrentz for Walt and Kenny?

I would trade everyone except Francis, Mobley, Griffin, Hakeem for Lafrentz. If we can do a trade for LaFrentz that unloads Walt or Cato, this will be the best Rockets offseason ever. I would buy a season ticket and come over from Germany for every game [IMG].

The reason that the Nuggets are willing to trade LaFrentz is that he and the coach are butting heads. I think that it would be a great move for the Rockets, but I think Denver would want more than KT and Walt.

Then let's give them Cato as well [IMG] [IMG]. Who knows, we are on a roll right now!!! With Francis, Mobley, Griffin, LaFrentz, Mo, Hakeem (for two more years) - THEN I really think we would not need Webber anymore...

Nugzfan is about to come and bash all of you. [IMG] To be fair, he does consistently underrate many of our guys, but if they were going to trade Raef, they could get better than Walt and Kenny. I do suspect that Raef may be dealt, as Issel can't stand him, but we'll have to offer up a better deal than that. A future #1, Shandon in a sign and trade, taking on Abdul-Wahad's contract-- we'd have to do one of those at least to get them to consider dealing Raef to us in a package that involves KT and Walt.

In order to get Lafrenz we would to at least give up Shandon, KT and a first round pick, and then it still my not be enough.

But I really believe this the guy Rudy really wants.

Lafrenz does not really demand the ball and will do the dirty work.

LaFretz would make a good piece for a center by committee (along with Collier and a cheap FA acquistion - maybe Alvin Jones or Ken Johnson if their teams don't sign them) when guarding the "big" centers (i.e. Shaq). Plus LaFrentz boards and blocks shots pretty well.

Taking on TAW's contract in order to pickup LaFrentz . . . . hmmmmm. Does somebody have the numbers for TAW's contract (amount of $$$, # of years)? He might be an okay pickup as a backup as long as the contract isn't of Cato/Big Country proportions.

LaFrentz would make a nice backup, but Cato just better not be in the deal... I'll start Cato over LaFrentz at center ANYDAY.

Tariq's contract does get pretty bad as time goes by over the next five years according to RealGM. Gradual increases thru 2006/7 with the 2006/7 salary maxing at $7,875,000. A rather large commitment I would say. The only way it would work is if Denver took Cato off of our hands. And I doubt they would trade one cap albatross for another.

Just thought I'd pass along LaFrentz numbers from last year:
    12.9 pts
    7.8 rebs
    36.7% from 3-point range
    47.7% field goals
    69.8% free throws
    2.64 blocks
All in 31.5 min a game.

i really like lafrentz, a rangy center (can shoot 3's: 36.7% from 3-point range) that can block shots as well. he'd be better at the 4, but he'd fit our offense like glove.

from the stat perspective, gotta remember their options are basically:
    1. mcdyess
    2. van exel (passes to himself)
    3. lafrentz

i think he's good enough to be the 2nd option possibly on a lot of teams.

LaFrentz lack the size and strength to play D on bigger centers. Though Cato doesn't play the D, at least he has potential to. Losing Cato would definitely hurt the Rockets in the long run, especially with big guys like Curry and Diop ready in 2-3 years.
