Not really on the topic of B-Ball but the thing I love is that no one around Dallas claims they are from Dallas. In Houston you can be from conroe and still claim you are from Houston. While in school in Waco and when travelling I find a lot of people from the outskirts always claim H-Town as their home. In Dallas its like, I am from Arlington, Grand Prarie, Plano, just anywhere but Dallas. It has always been my best example for what kind of stuck-up a-holes come from that place.

I grew up in and around Houston. I claim Houston as my home town because it rocks.

I live in Plano. I claim Plano because Dallas Stinks, not because I'm a broad brush "stuck-up a-hole." Dallas just stinks. I only say Dallas if I'm out of town or out of state (which is further out of town) as a point of reference if people do not know where Plano is. (I did the same when I lived in Pearland, Lake Jackson or Aldine outside of Houston City limits.)

    (just look under my username)

I get your point, but we are not all as "rectal" up here as you might assume.

I was hanging out with a guy from Dallas last Saturday... can't remember if he tried to claim he was from another place which was really a suburb. I think not, because he realized people wouldn't know where it was. Anyway, he said some innocent thing about watching the Mavericks and wondered why I had such a strong reaction to the word "Mavericks". :D I had to explain that I started watching basketball when I lived in Houston, and that I'm still recovering from the first round of the playoffs, and that I spend too much time hanging out on a Rockets board. :)

I live in Lewisville and when I'm talking to folks in DFW that's where I tell them I'm from.

If I'm out of town and talking to folks, I tell them I'm from Dallas...

I think Dallas would suck if you're not white. I'm working in Dallas on a project at work right now, and it's a very very white city - especially the uptown area. The sportsradio station (the ticket) says some things on the drive home that are downright wrong when referencing minorities. Their latest facination is with how many "hispanos" (sic) you can fit in the back of a pickup truck. I was shocked when I first heard this bit, but it's been going on for a few weeks.

I don't really remember why exactly but Dallas was not allowed to annex outlying communities like Houston was so it is in fact, surrounded by incorporated towns. The city limits of Dallas proper are miniscule compared with The City Of Houston; however the "Metroplex" is bigger than Houston.
Remember the stink when Houston annexed Kingwood but Houston still pulled it off. Other than a few tiny older towns, Houston just absorbed all of the surrounding development.

OK guys, I know you don't want to hear this, but Dallas is alright. I moved there very relunctantly in 2001 and stayed till August of last year. (Actually, the job was in Plano, but I lived in Dallas because there was no way I was going live in F-in' Plano.) I ended up liking it a lot better than I thought I would. Yes, it has it's drawback, such as the year-round 24-7 Cowboys talk on sports radio and the complete lack of Astros, but it has a lot going for it as well, in particular a great local music scene.

Yes, there is a great degree of superficiality, but to call it dead and boring is just an uninformed statement.
