I worked for an energy marketer based in the midwest owned by a major Chicago energy Corp that owned Chicago's major utility.

The marketer a company like Reliant was based in Green Bay. I thought people from Green Bay were the salt of the earth.

One thing about our marketer. I started before ethanol collapsed. Ethanol was a boondoggle but I learned there was government pressure to sale natural gas to ethanol producers.

Obviously there is a lot of government involvement in the energy industry, more than most industries

Utilities are basically still government companies. Centrepoint is never going out of business as long as they own the power lines

I actually worked on the opposition to the Ohio nuclear bailout. Utilities are in general politically powerful. Their brands are very strong, often highly trusted by ratepayers/voters. They also do a lot of local community investment in their territories. They are significant to local job markets and tax bases. They give the allowed campaign contributions to all the local politicians who have not made themselves enemies. And when they want particular legislation, they'll spend tens or even hundreds of millions on marketing, PR, lobbying, etc to turn the public to their way of thinking. And, Exelon and FirstEnergy are particularly powerful utility holding companies. These are guys local politicians would like to have in their corner. So I was not at all surprised that we lost and they got their nuke bailouts. Now I'm simultaneously surprised and not surprised that they got busted for corruption. Not surprised because that whole corner of the energy industry is dirty. But surprised that a politician was able to wring out so much value from a couple of companies who are that powerful.

FBI should take a good look at the power players in Illinois, New Jersey, and New York, the other states that passed ZEC legislation to support failing nuclear plants. If they're willing to pay to play in Ohio, they'd be willing to do so in other states. Btw, what bs that there aren't any utility executives in handcuffs right now. I read Exelon will have deferred adjudication after paying a couple hundred million bucks. BS.

There is literally no bottom with these people.

Lie, cheat and steal as much as they can until the system absolutely collapses.

The GOP is an absolute cancer on our government, our society and our way of life.
