per fox 26. not much. said world championships was the best of his bball career so far. dennis lindsey met him there. said that he's a different guard from what the rox are used to. can hit the outside shot and can drive and kick out. again... not much. excited he's in town though. had to edit...
Didn't he say earlier in the summer that he would be in the US for a rookie meeting now, go back to Greece, and then come back to stay later (maybe early October)? PS - Lindsey said he can hit the outside shot? Has he really scouted the guy?
that's only one game. somewhere mentioned that he is like 35% 3pt shooting in the whole world basketball tournament. maybe he fit the NBA 3point line better? i don't know.
Agreed!! V-Span has to prove himself on the court!! But I have confidence in him! He could bring us different energy!
Welcome VSPAN the thing I am worried about is him adjusting to the NBA three point line He can shoot from the nba 3pt line, but after watching him play in the world championships, I just dont know whether he can do it at above 35%, so I hope he works on it, and get stronger
lol, he probably only watched him against the US team anyways welcome Span..hopefully we get more details in the next few days
vspan will need to improve his outside shot, but i'd rather not see him putting up that many 3's. rockets need guys to attack the basket more than they need another 3 pt shooter.
He was in Houston for one day with his mother. He talked to Van Gundhi for several hours, he went through his physical and medical exams and then practiced at the Toyota Center. He went to NY today and will stay there for 5 days.
Actually according to the FIBA website he shot 25.5% for the tournament. That is nine games on a much shorter 3 point line than the NBA. The US game helped him because he shot 3-5...so at best he can be a streaky (good) shooter. Overall, though, he is not good from long range (but he has shot 46% overall so he is effecient in that respect).
Actually he has probably watched him as much as anyone and Vpan has been shooting 50% overall and 36%+ the last 3 years in europe. In the euroleague last year he averaged 62% on 2 point fg and 43% on 3 pt fg. Not too shabby for a so called bad shooter. I don't think he'll have a problem hitting an open 3 that he will get from time to time when everyone collapses on Yao. Still there is something about his release I am not crazy about. It's like he seemed to rush it in the WC's. It might just have been that this was his first WC's competition and the pressure to perform well affected his shooting. But he contributes in so many ways that even with poor shooting he can still help his team on the court. I expect him to have hard time shooting initially for us because of trying to absorb learning a new system a new culture and a new league all at once and especially having to understand JVG's defensive schemes. But I also see him as a quick learner who will adapt quickly and learn his role and find his shot.
I don't think his shot is bad, but more unsecure and his selection sometimes sucks ass, but he will have time to improve it
Frankly, if he ends up being more comfortable with his shot from a bit closer in, then so be it, as long as it goes in. I'd rather have a made 2-pointer than a bunch of missed 3-pointers any day.
I haven't watched him that much, but he seems to be a rhythm shooter. He typically does pretty well when he pulls up for a shot off the dribble or catches and shoots. It's the set shot that he doesn't do well with.
He is going to struggle, it will all depend on his confidence. Boki could shoot too, but he NEVER developed the confidence on the floor he needed to be successful....so much about the NBA game is a stubborn WILL to succeed. Does V-span have it? We shall see. DD
Spanoulis is way more confident than Nachbar. Of course, Nachbar's psyche was a fragile little flower so that isn't saying much.
