Anyone have access to ESPN Insider that can post this: http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/feat...ttp://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/features/rumors After the game last night, they were talking about this a lot on radio. I've loved Miggy since he's been here, but we need to take away something positive from this season, and frankly Randy Wolf is not it. New prospects for next season would be ideal!
http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2008/07/sox_have_no_int.html Sox have no interest in Tejada Email|Link|Comments (1) Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff July 29, 2008 12:36 AM A week ago the Red Sox shot down rumors of a possible deal for White Sox backup shortstop Juan Uribe. Now, a few days later there's a Houston Chronicle report of Boston having interest in Miguel Tejada, which has also been completely dismissed. According to team and league sources the answer again is "not interested." The Red Sox have no intention of taking on any of Tejada's personal baggage (Mitchell Report and feds investigation). The Sox are still trying to acquire a relief pitcher and if they had any interest in an Astro in would be for 41-year-old righty reliever Doug Brocail, who has held righties to a .189 average.
ESPN's Enrique Rojas writes that the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros have had conversations about shortstop Miguel Tejada. Rojas' sources indicate that the talks have just started. Tejada told ESPN in a phone interview, "I feel good in Houston, but I wouldn't be afraid to accept the challenge of playing in Boston."
According to Jim Maloney of mlb.com: [rquoter] Miguel Tejada isn't going anywhere unless a team blows away the Astros with an offer. Though it is true that the Red Sox did inquire about Tejada and have scouted the veteran shortstop recently, they were informed that the Astros aren't interested in dealing him, or any of their regulars for that matter. Strange as it may seem considering their place in the standings, the Astros remain buyers, and are looking at adding a reliever. At present, they aren't interested in selling, so you can also forget the rumors that Geoff Geary, Doug Brocail or Jose Valverde might be going anywhere before the deadline. [/rquoter] ... which fits in with the other stuff we've read about the Astros still thinking they are in it and looking to be buyers.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5913917.html Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada said today general manager Ed Wade approached him Monday and told him the club didn't plan to trade him. Tejada has been rumored to have drawn interest from the Boston Red Sox, but it appears he won't be traded before Thursday's non-waiver deadline. "He told me I was a Houston Astro, they want me and think they can win with me," Tejada said. "It's really respectable for Ed to come to me and say, 'Miggy don't worry about it.'" Tejada said he hasn't paid attention to any trade talk. "Houston brings me here because they want me here," he said. "I am really comfortable here, I'm happy here and I think the people want me here."
Billy Wagner for Taylor Buchholz, Brandon Duckworth(less) and Ezquiel Astacio!!!!!! Not all his deals are golden.
If I'm not mistaken, Buchholz was considered to be a top level prospect at the time. Just goes to show even if you trade for a stud prospect, he can still end up sucking.
Billy Wagner, 2008: 45 innings, 2.00 ERA, 48K, 0.84 WHIP Taylor Buchholz, 2008: 48 innings, 1.68 ERA, 41K, 0.85 WHIP Buchholz was fine - and despite his ERA his 1st year, he looked like a fantastic prospect with crazy good stuff with the Astros (a couple of shutouts against the Rangers, I believe?). Like all young players, he was inconsistent, but he had the stuff. The Astros just gave up on him based on his first half-season in the majors. If he really was a throw in on that trade, it was pure stupidity.
Hey, according to ESPN's standings, there's still a 0.2% chance that we make the playoffs. So you're telling me there's a chance. YEAH!
Buchholz was well regarded, but he was never a top prospect. I believe the Astros asked for Gavin Floyd or Cole Hamels but the Phillies didn't budge an inch so we settled on Buccholz. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/features/03top10s/astros.html It's too bad the Stros couldn't persuade them. Hamels is an ace and Gavin Floyd is finally living up to his hype. He's 10-6 this year with a 3.57era for the White Sox.
From that link: (in big, bold letters): Top Prospect: Taylor Buchholz, RHP (yes, they were just talking about him becoming the top prospect on the Astros, not nationally)
