so im a senior in college and fixing to graduate...finally. so for the summer i have freetime and what better way to spend it than go on a trip to europe with 2 other friends.

i just need help making some decisions because sometimes word of mouth gives you something that those silly travel books cant really seem to grasp.

so... anyone ever been to southern france? i know there are cities like nice, cannes, and marseille but are there some cool small towns worth visiting and hanging out as well?

also anyone been to southern germany? i know i wanna hit up munich, but dont know much else other than that the area is beautiful.

    thanks for any info

Have fun...now, you can use the "One time, I went backpacking through Western Europe" story on a girl and it will actually be true...

Nice is sweet. From there Monaco is like a 30 min train ride. Munich also rocks. If you are interested in WWII, the Dachau concentration camp is like a 35 min train ride. I highly recommend going there.

I've been to South France. We hit Marseilles and Cap D'Age. The beaches are awesome and filled with nice nekkidnes.

Bayonne in the SE corner of France is cool. A lot of Basque cultural stuff. And, Biarritz (a suburb) is very cool, but you'll feel a little out of place if you aren't driving a Ferrari. I'm told Aix en Provence is a cool small town to go to, but I haven't been. It's not far from Marseille.

I recommend Freiburg in Sourthern Germany - it's a rather large city, but it has a almost pristine (and huge!) gothic cathedral - one of the few in Germany that survived more or less untouched during WWII.

If you really want to see absolutely astounding countryside, check out Neuschwanstein castle.

The town right next to it is called Hohenschwangau - which has another castle of the same name.

If you like Roman ruins, I would check out the town of Nimes in Southern France. They have some really great things there.

Orange which is also in the South of France, has the best preserved Roman theatre in all of Europe.

It is also the warmest city in France.

In my opinion, Nice isn't very nice.

I've been to that castle, pretty cool. Southern Germany is good times, IMO. Munich, Baveria rocks. Awesome city. I wouldn't mind living there in a second life.

Go see Bittburg in Germany. Southwestern Germany. I really have nothing else to add, except that you should go see it, and tell me how it is, because that's where I was born and I lived there until I was 2. I'm just curious about my birthplace.

I've also heard there are some interesting castles in Cologne, but that's not really Southern Germany.
