A new breed of conservatives http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7658026/ South Park Conservatives Subversive humor spills into mainstream Updated: 8:33 p.m. ET April 27, 2005 What is a 'South Park Conservative'? If you’re imagining a “Cartman” look-a-like squeezed into a button-down suit, guess again. While the term has loosely floated around, South Park Conservatives author describes one as someone non-traditionalist and somewhat disillusioned with the left. To him, they look at “political correctness, the anti-Americanism, the elitism, and says that’ not me — I want nothing to do with that.”
The guy obviously watches South Park with tinted glasses, they make fun of conservatives just as much as liberals on the show, I'd say that the show goes against anything that's illogically extreme, which goes to both ends. How many times has the "moral" at the end of the show been a message of moderation?
I think this is an insightful analogy made by the author of the piece. I strongly believe there is a growing faction of the Democratic party that is getting sick of being represented by extremists like Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Robert Sheets Byrd, Harry Reid, Forbes Kerry, etc. These Democrats are sick of being a part of the group that joins the environmentalist lunatic fringe, the minority underperformance pity parties, the rejection of Christian symbols, and the consistent anti-war sentiments that weaken our troops' morale. I can't say that I blame them. The party is in disarray.
Not selling out the evironment just to line the pockets of corporations, is clearly the act of a lunatic. Separation of church and state is just cooky talk. Anyone who opposes a war, that our leaders to us about to start, and doesn't just say "what ever you say Mr. President, i promise not to think for myself" is clearly a COMMUNIST!
The South Park guys, btw, are both actual for real Libertarians. I believe one of them is actually a party member. Given that people have been having trouble figuring out where to place Libertarians in the Liberal/Conservative spectrum since forever, projecting things like this on them is natural. There's an interview with South Park co-creator Matt Stone related to the release of "Team America" from Fresh Air on NPR in which Stone is pretty direct about his political affiliations, among other things.
I agree. Democrats have lost their image. They are too often seen as fanatics with extreme environmentalism and suing to remove "under God" from the pledge. Most democrats have a middle ground philosophy that isn't reflected in their leaders. That being said, I can't believe some of these crazy neo-conservatives are being elected time and time again. With leaders like Delay who just spouts off support for the most recent hype like Schiavo or God or such and uses those ideas and principles for his own agenda. Are people blind to this? Dick Cheney can't BE any more neo-conservative! Saying we went to Iraq on moral grounds? If so, why doesn't he support environmentalism or broader health care or send more aid to Africa. In case you're wondering. I'm a moderate Republican (oxymoron?). Never underestimate the stupidity of people in large quantities.
