If you can force people to buy health insurance for the good of cutting costs for everyone, then you should be able to force people to buy a gun for the good of cutting costs for everyone.

Whether it would save money or not is hardly the point.

Everyone needs their rights protected (ex. right to life)

It would save far more money if everyone who already has a gun simply shoots all the sick people.

    Problem solved.

Politicians who waste the time of their legislature with a bill they know will be killed should be voted out.

If they don't like the health care bill they should offer alternatives rather than silly bills.

The problem with trying to create some sort of equivalency ignores the fact that hospitals are required to provide emergency services therefore there is a universal mandate as is for hospitals and medical personnel. Requiring people to buy health care addresses that. This isn't equivalent to saying that everyone is required to buy anything.

This is stupid for a number of reasons, but the biggest one is that South Dakota has different restrictions on what laws it can enact than the feds do. South Dakota already forces its citizens to buy car insurance.

I wish every american can purchase health insurance, so they wont pass the cost to the taxpayers. Unless you are okay to pay for the unisured, since that is what we are currently doing. Once the Health care reform is fully intact you will not need any more medicare or medicaid. Every one will be mandated to purchase health insurance or be fined. If living in poverty level you should be given a tax credit after you intially pay for it first.

protecting peoples' rights cost money (police, fire department, military). So if you think everyone owning a gun would lower the costs of these things, then according to the Democrats and Obama the government should be able to force you to buy a gun. That's the principle behind the mandate.

The police are required to protect those in need. Same with the fire department.

Of course, Massachusetts mandating that their citizens buy health insurance is perfectly OK, but only because it was a Republican governor that did it.

More wasting time with a frivolous law that will lead to nothing. But I guess conservatives have to find a wedge issue where they can.

People lived past fifty long before vaccines were invented. Aristotle lived to the age of 61. Socrates - 71.

Make sense. This would help eliminate instances where people who don't own guns go and mooch off other people's guns when they have an emergency need for guns.
