I'm assuming we are buying a similar pick from someone else? 500k sounds reasonable to draft then.. I would have taken it
They did the right thing. The pick isn't worth it. Farmer is an ok player, but they may have asked for Brooks or Lowry. Farmer regressed this season, otherwise a Lowry/Farmer exchange might have been all right.
actually, i think they are trying to save some money. selling the first round pick gets out of that guaranteed contract. farmar was replaced in the rotation by shannon brown who will be looking for a raise this summer. they are probably just trying to unload farmar for a TE to save more money for resigning their own guys.
I wonder what the Lakers wanted in exchange for Farmar. If the Rockets end up trading away Aaron Brooks this summer, I would definitely be interested in acquiring Jordan Farmar for the right price. He's an aggressive defender (I think the Lakers beat the Rockets in 5-6 games if Phil Jackson used Farmar more to defend Brooks), a decent shooter and a nice young PG all around. Plus, he's currently the only Jewish player in the NBA (but could be joined shortly by Omri Casspi), so that's a plus for me. I'll admit my bias, though.
i believe they have the 29th pick at that point having one of the 31-35 pick is a lot more attractive. end of first round/early second round you are basically selecting talent wise the same type of players (of course there will be diamonds in the rough) but you arent locked into a guaranteed contract if its a second round pick. thats why you would see teams wanting to buy the 31st pick (like the rockets did 2 years ago) over the 28-30 picks. having to give back memphis 32/33rd pick in the francis "deal" was that much more frustrating to me. Also I love Farmar as a UCLA product BUT I want NO part of him on the Rockets. No thank you
Getting Farmar would be ok if they took back Cook. Farmar would be needed especially if the Amare trade prospers.
This means 1 of 2 things, maybe both (I'm talking about us not buying the pick, not the Farmar thing) 1.) The Rockets are targeting someone that will be gone before #29 2.) We have another trade lined up.
A trade involving Brooks. Obviously, that's hardly news around here, but it's striking that we would be hearing about trades for a vet PG BEFORE a trade involving Brooks has occurred, rather than after. I'm inclined to agree that Morey must basically have a trade involving Brooks practically lined up already. I guess the current thinking is that it would be for Amare, but I find it hard to believe that the Suns would deal Amare for a Rockets package. It just seems like other teams could put together a better deal - both in terms of financial relief and talent.
