I tried to see if there's a source where realgm got the information. Nothing doing. EDIT: I double-checked ESPN, they're quoting a source having spoken with realgm. I post this because it might lend some credence to those who believe Rubio can be acquired in trade, and whether the Rockets might be able to outbid the dreaded Knicks. ----------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/61171/20090817/knicks_could_be_pursuing_rubio/ With Minnesota Timberwolves' President David Kahn bound for Spain this week, some feel the trip isn't necessarily to bring Ricky Rubio back to Minnesota. One insider tells RealGM's Alex Kennedy that Kahn could be working out a scenario where Rubio would be dealt to the New York Knicks. "The Knicks have closed off negotiations with all free agent point guards until next week," says the source. "I think they're making a push for Rubio and if that fails, then they'll reopen talks with their other options. The Knicks have been in talks with multiple free agent point guards, most notably Ramon Sessions. "Kahn and [Knicks' President] Donnie Walsh are close and New York is looking for a cheap point guard who could help attract free agents next summer. Rubio fits that mold. I think that's what this latest trip to Spain is about, working something out with New York." Rubio would make less than $3M during the 2010-11 season during the second season of his rookie contract.
source: rockets close off negotiations with free agent shooting guards indicating push for lebron james.
Its a better city... look at it like this hes a kid from europe and hears Minnesota drafted him or he hears NEW YORK... its juss one of those things
What does that have to do with the quote you posted? What could the Knicks offer that would interest Minnesota?
I don't see anything that the Timberwolves would want from the Knicks. It would have to be a 3-way trade.
They need to a talented veteran for their starting unit and/or a lengthy SG, or a lock down defender. Chris Duhon would hamper Flynn's development. Timberwolves doesn't need another 6ft guard in their undersized backcourt. David Lee is good, but they already have Kevin Love and Al Jefferson, who are better. Wilson Chandler is redundant with Ryan Gomes.
Just makes me wonder. Morey was hot after Rubio at the draft. Has DM been holding out on all major moves until he can try to acquire Rubio? Is he in touch with Kahn through all this? NY can offer up a bigger stage and the endorsements. Houston can still ring up the endorsements, and also offer a large Spanish-speaking market. Which team would have the better trade package? Would Battier and Brooks for Rubio and a bad contract (Songaila?) do the trick? Or would each team have to get a 3rd team involved? Which doesn't preclude better offers from any of the league's other 27 teams.
please provide a link. and don't forget to open a useless thread too. oh, and don't forget to make a poll on what's the likelihood of this trade being legitimate.
Why does everyone want Rubio on the Rockets. I dont get it. why bring in a guy who basically is a steve nash type of player, who excells in the run and gun offense? when in a year from now, when he actually has a little experience, he will b asked to feed the ball downlow to Yao. One on One off the dribble AB is better than Rubio. Rubio is perfect for a transition offense, and in a year we will not be looking for a player like that. We have a low post player with other guys who will make hard cuts and can take their man off the dribble. Ariza and AB fit this mold perfectly, not Rubio. Thoughts????
It's a long offseason, the Knicks are apparently after a player that Morey was after and might have an impact on our offseason moves, and if you find this thread so pointless, you really could have just ignored it. You and thacabbage both.
I think the reason people want Rubio is because they see him as a future superstar who could lead the team to a championship. If this is the case, Rockets should go all out to get the guy. Franchise-type players don't grow on trees. Personally, I don't believe Rubio will be a superstar.
Sorry, I wasn't making fun of the thread. As you said, this indicates that the Wolves are still shopping Rubio whom we know Morey had targeted before the draft. My post was poking fun at the assumption of the source in the article in that the Knicks have nothing to offer the Wolves in a trade.
You know, at this point, who aren't the Knicks going after? Everyone from LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Stephen Curry, Rubio, etc. have all been rumored to be heading to or being traded for by New York. I just don't pay attention to the newest ".......... to New York?" headlines by the newspaper and RealGM. Definitely not trying to complain, it's just does anyone think that New York is actually going to get any of these players anytime soon? Ah, it is summer. We have to talk about something, lol.
Rubio's 18. Yao, not so much. PG and C are the two toughest positions to fill at the championship level. If you have a chance to get someone who you think could be that PG for 12+ years, you do it. It also gives you a framework for post-Yao. In the meantime, remember that Magic and Kareem worked well together... I think Morey would love to put together a team that could enhance both players' strengths. Rubio would make life a lot easier for Yao and Ariza and Scola because he'll get the ball to the right place at the right time. I'm all tingly with anticipation and hope he ends up a Rocket (while recognizing that he won't be Chris Paul on day one)... but he has an elite (and rare) skill set and the potential is enormous. I'm firmly on the Rubio bandwagon.
This story has zero credibility. The reporter Alex Kennedy that reported this is probably younger than Rubio. See his picture below, he's the one interviewing JJ Redick. http://bleacherreport.com/users/7292-alex-kennedy
