It has been confirmed that Tulsa offered Graham. Internet rumor that he will be announced as Tulsa head coach tomorrow!
If Graham leaves, and Applewhite ends up being the o-coordinator in Alabama, then Rice is back to its tradition of losing seasons.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2728375 Tulsa is expected to announce the hiring of Rice coach Todd Graham, two sources familiar with the search said Thursday night. Among the coaches one source said were also considered were former Miami coach Larry Coker and Florida assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator Charlie Strong. Graham, defensive coordinator at Tulsa only two years ago, took Rice to a bowl game in his first and only season there. Former Tulsa coach Steve Kragthorpe was named Louisville coach this week and it was announced that Graham had signed an extension that would keep him at Rice through 2012. Rice athletic director Chris Del Conte announced the extension on Tuesday, but it is unclear how long this extends his original contract since those terms weren't released. Graham helped the Owls rebound from a 1-10 record in 2005 to post a 6-2 Conference USA record and earn a berth in the New Orleans Bowl. The Owls lost 41-17 in that game to finish with a 7-6 record. The Owls lost to Kansas in the 1961 Bluebonnet Bowl. "We know we have the right man for the job at Rice, and with this extension, we have made a firm commitment to him and his vision for Rice football in the future," Del Conte said. __________________________ Well adios... Rice should just offer Major the Job
With that and Major leaving for Alabama or LSU, Rice can go back to it's sucking ways again. What a shame and I'm being sincere when I say that.
Not true. Channel 13 just reported that Major Applewhite will be the new coach of the Rice Owls if Graham leaves. It seems like it is a done deal so congrats to new Coach Applewhite.
"Applewhite has already been asked if he is interested in succeeding Graham." "Applewhite, however, has other options available to him. The same sources tell FOX 7 that Alabama coach Nick Saban called Applewhite Thursday to sweeten an offer to become the offensive coordinator at Alabama. That offer includes money to buy out his contract at Rice. Additional, sources tell FOX 7 that the same offer was made yesterday by LSU coach Les Miles during Applewhite’s visit to Baton Rouge." http://www.myfoxaustin.com/myfox/pa...n=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=6.1.1 Maybe UT should get into the mix.
They are going to double what he's making at Rice. With signing day just a month away Rice is screwed.
http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/index.ssf?/base/sports/1168511058109400.xml&coll=2 Saban has offered Jason Garrett the OC job. Looks like it will be down to LSU vs. Rice. I think MA should go to LSU and get the exposure. Another interesting not...Joe Pendry joined the Alabama coaching staff.
F Graham. I know Rice is our main rival, but they don't deserve to have a coach bolt 2 days after signing an extension, and so soon before national signing day.
Him and BigTexxx are consoling each other. Rice's best hopes rest with hoping a Longhorn will lead them, too funny
