i wish i could say i disagreed with the op. i know i'm a hypocrite based on all my previous posts regarding the astros, but this team is terrible right now.
the astros are just never unwatchable to me. i get frustrated with them, for sure....but i heart them too much!
Anybody disappointed enough to create a thread like this, especially this early in the season, must be a passionate fan. You'll keep watching. In fact, you'll probably watch the very next game.
Worst Astros start since 1984. There are quite a few folks on here who weren't born then. If you're a glass half full guy, they went to the playoffs and nearly the WS in 86. Here's to 2011!
This team is horrible right now. Simply horrible. But, I'll be interested all the way to the bitter end. Here's to a good draft and Wade building the Astros as well or better than he built the Phillies. It takes time, folks!
If this team wants to go anywhere... they MUST trade for pitching. Pence, Lee, whoever it takes. They can't hold on to all these hitters and expect to win with a so-so starting rotation.
The depressing part about the Astros is that they suck and they don't offer much hope of getting better in the future. You've got a bunch of old and declining players and a depleted farm system. This team is in its worst shape in years. The Astros made big mistakes of believing that they could contend after the 2005 season. The truth was that they were lucky to get to the WS that year. Instead of building up the farm system like all the good teams do, they traded away the future to try to contend now (and failed to do so). Now they are suffering from the consequences.
Sad thing is they really don't have many good hitters. Outside of Berkman and Lee, they have exactly 0 hitters considered "good."
Well, at least they are who we thought they were. I didn't think the offense would be this bad, but the pitching is right where we thought it would be.
