Ok. Schorder had a nice outing and showed us how a PG should perform but KPJ is learning on the job, so what happens when he get back?
KPJ starts and Schroeder runs the 2nd unit, and you stagger Green and KPJ's minutes a bit..... Schroeder looked good in one game, not so good in the next and had far too many turnovers, but him pushing the pace was nice.....if we can get KPJ to push the pace.....then we are good. KPJ is the PG of this team....and has been pretty good with around 8apg and 2to in the last month or so.... DD
I'm putting Eric Gordon, KPjr and Wood in bubble wrap for the rest of the season. Since the trade deadline that has been my hope, play more Jalen Green, Schroder, Nix, Sengun, Garuba possibly. What is the league going to do? Order us to play them? See John Wall.
The plan is clear, play the veterans and then act angry at the fans when the product on the court is not the one as advertised. Then act like the fans don't know what a successful rebuilding is.
You place Shrodinger on the bench running the second unit. KPJ is 21 and a core part of this team's future. This is a development phase for this franchise. Therefore you develop KPJ, Sengun, Green Christopher etc. That should be the primary goal of this coaching staff and front office.
Dennis probably won't be on the team next year because his contract is expiring. KPJ should remain the starting PG and we need to get a look at Dashien Nix backing him up.
KPjr is the best player on this team right now, and DS is a guy you run with the second team. Now, DS's presence does allow us to mix things up a bit....ONCE IN AWHILE, play KPjr at the wing. The Rockets can get a look at that. That said, it might confuse the issue...especially with all the progress he's made out top. Obviously, DS will be gone next year.
I don't want any vets on the starting unit other than for leadership. We need to lose and develop our young guys.
Why is this even a question? When your best player gets back, they play. Are you worried about the tank? Don't worry, we still have our rookie tank commander to ensure we keep picking up L's
What do you think will happen? KPJ will be starting and given the keys to hump the basketball just like he has all season.
That is where we have a real problem, then you have KPJ vs Green, which is where I believe this is headed anyway. At this point KPJ would be the better more efficient player - who is also a secondary attacker - and is left handed. vs. A guy who is an extreme athlete that has speed to burn, but maybe a couple years away from being at his peak. So as an Org, do you wait for a guy that is 3 years away from being what he could, or one that is 1 year away? One has had a history of mental issues, the other is not as skillful on the court atm. It might come down to money, can you sign KPJ for a little bit less and trade Green and picks for a player like Zion? This team will look way different in even 1 year. DD
Not really, in the unlikely event that KPJ doesn't want to be PG, you pencil one of them in technically as the SF and rock on. Of course, he's shown that he DOES want to be the PG, and he's done pretty well at it thus far, so I see no reason why there would be conflict. Despite what the mindless cultists believe, Jalen Green's struggles have nothing at all to do with KPJ or any other player.
If I were coach, I'd let the best player play regardless of senior status and let the young guys learn off the bench and have that hunger to be better. But I am not head coach and that would probably anger KPJ to have him sit. KPJ will continue to start, and hopefully he can develop and make everybody better.
If you are playing the best players, you aren't going to sit literally your best player.... If they were to do that, there's a certain rookie that might not see the floor though....
I'm in favor of starting all young guys at this point, so I agree with your premise. But stop with the "KPJ is our best player" noise. He's still an awful shooter from the field and from the line. His turnovers have improved but he still has a way to go in terms of running a team. I think the only player worse in our starting lineup has been Green. I think EGo has probably been our best player this year, and Sengun might be second. Lots of vets better than KPJ, too. He's still too raw. But the point right now isn't winning, so unleash him and let him lead the tank.
I agree with that. We should just pretend like we have a competent GM that actually made the right moves at the trade deadline and act like Wood, Gordon, and Shroder aren't on the team. Start all young players and make sure to bring up Nix to get him some time too.
