I don't recall seeing this posted anywhere but it's pretty funny. http://espn.go.com/ncf/news/2002/0614/1395046.html Changing Cotton Bowl Classic proposed -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press OKLAHOMA CITY -- University of Oklahoma Regents will hear a pitch next week for ending the tradition of an annual football game in Dallas between the Sooners and Texas Longhorns. E.Z. Million, a Norman businessman, has campaigned for years for a home-and-home series between Oklahoma and Texas. The game has been played for 73 years in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas during the Texas State Fair. Million said Friday "it's absurd'' that Oklahoma plays the game every year in Dallas, giving up the economic benefits of up to 40,000 Texans coming to Norman for the game. "Only Oklahomans could think that we should drive 200 miles to go to a side show at someone else's carnival,'' he said. No action is planned at Wednesday's regents meeting in Lawton, said Catherine Bishop, OU vice president for public affairs. Although OU President David Boren granted Million's request that he speak to the regents, Bishop said "I wouldn't read anything into that.'' Joe Castiglione, OU athletic director, has in the past opposed a change in the status of the game. On Friday, Castiglione said through a spokesman that OU officials have a contract with Texas and have no plans to make any changes. Million said he will meet next week with Boren and hopes to get a proposal for changing the annual game on the July regents' meeting. Oklahoma has been designated as the "home team'' for this year's Big 12 game and there is no reason it cannot be played in Norman on Oct. 12, Million said. He said tickets that have already been printed could be redeemed for general admission, with Texas fans seated in the east and south stands of Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and OU fans in the west and north. Million said the change would improve the state's image and get "worldwide attention.'' "Oklahomans would finally be standing up and saying we will no longer be submissive to Texans.''
His name is EZ Million . . .how seriously can you take that? I reckon the OU folks are just hearing him out so they can say they listened to him, and tell him to shut up about it in the future. Its a stupid idea, and EZ is a stupid person for saying it.
Does that dipsh!t know how many Texans attent OU? My nephew just graduated number 14 in his class from Jesuit in Dallas, and he's taking his Texas money to pay out of state tuition at OU. Way to bite the hand that feeds you. Oklahoma is just the part of Texas we didn't want. Have you ever driven through Oklahoma on the way up to Kansas and Nebraska and South Dakota. It starts to get a little prettier in Kansas, but driving through Oklahoma makes the drive to El Paso appealing. They have like one historical marker on 35 going through the whole state of Oklahoma. I stopped and read it. It stated that the bolders we saw laying in the fields were left their by glaciers several eons ago. I guess nothing significant has happened since.
"Sooner want home-and-home wiith UT" No they dont, that idiot EZ Million does. yeah, only a national championship
Only the OK panhandle was ever a part of Texas. http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/atlas_texas/texas_land_grants.jpg
E.Z. Million???? Come on, now that's gotta be a pseudonym, right? Either that or he's got some really odd parents.
Good god I hope this doesn't work. The last thing we want at OU is 40,000 Texans coming up here, screwing **** up. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating against Texans. Although I have lived in Ok for a while and currently attend OU, I'm originally from Houston. I just enjoy the peaceful weekend we get on campus for the OU Texas game. If you want to go then go, if not stay here, sit back, and chill for a while. I'm sure there's a few students at UT who feel the same. I mean, having all those people invade your campus and space is just annoying.
Good thing this game won't be moved. I would hate to have to go to that craphole hillbilly town known as Norman. I don' t think I could handle seeing all those inbred, toothless joe's in one place.
Q: Why doesn't Texas break off from the continental USA and float off into the Gulf of Mexico? A: Because Oklahoma sucks!
The reasons EZ gives are dumb, but he is right about one thing: both UT and OU should look at other venues for the Red River Shootout. Why? Because the Cotton Bowl is a dump. Sure there's history, tradition, etc... but its about time the city of Dallas steps up to the plate with major renovations. I wouldn't mind seeing the game moved to Reliant Stadium until Jerry Jones can get a 'burb to build him a playpen. UT/OU should always be played at a neutral venue though. I think having it played at the State Fair is just crap. It doesn't matter. We could start our own fest in Houston in honor of the Red River Shootout.
Some people came up with this proposal. http://www.cottondome.org/indexoriginal.html Seriously though, the Cotton Bowl is old and decrepit, but there's not a bad seat in the house. The seats are right up on top of the field. The stadium just needs a little facelift. As for the State Fair, I think it's a perfect place for ESPN Gameday, and for us Horn fans walk around and laugh at all the slack-jawed yokels known as Okies. Not to mention that you can buy tickets on game day in the fair for face value if you choose to wait till halfway through the 4th quarter.
"EZ Million" was on the sports radio here in OKC today, he sounds like a real moron. He'll be on again next week, I'll post some of his comments....
Why do people do this? I mean, whats with this dumbass name calling **** that so many OU TX fans get into? OU is one of the top acedemic schools. Hell, I was a part of the largest class of National scholars at ANY universtiy is year. Each year we put out a high number of Rhodes scholars (Top five). But you don't see me downing UT students, why? Because we're all in the same boat. Trying to get out of college alive and with a degree. Thats it. Football and whatever else comes in a distant second. There's just no need or time to be concerned with this name calling bull****.
