http://www.soonerfans.com/shopping/store/tshirts.html I hate OU with a passion. mduke, you're alright since your a Rockets fan. As soon as Simms finally leaves, UT can only have an upgrade at QB. Which automatically improves UT's chances against the Sooners.
Sadly, some of these really are pathetic excuses. I especially love #7 and #5. Amazingly, Mack Brown also talked about the wind constraining them after the KSU win - even though there was no wind at field level (not to mention we actually threw deep several times).
Yeah, I'm sure Chance Mock or Vincent Young would've done so much more against the OU defense with those little three yard routes. Chris Simms is one of the best things to ever happen to the University of Texas football program, and it's a shame people overlook thousands of other problems to try and blame it on him.
aww, i was a little disappointed at the shirt. as a UT fan, i can definitely laugh at our coaches suckiness sometimes but only 10, 7, and 5 seemed really funny. also calling him the fake roy williams was pretty funny too. but dammit, i expected funnier. even if it's at my team's expense, i want some laughs dammit. of course i guess 3 out of 10 isn't too bad considering it came from OU.
Greg Davis structured the O that way because he knows Simms is not as good as everyone thought 3 years ago. He can't scramble , so when he gets blitzed, he "bails out" by throwing the little dink pass. With Mock or VC in there, they can scramble which will provide them more time than Chris to find receivers. Thus G. Davis maybe would've taken more 3 yard pass routes out of the offense. Major Applewhite had productive games under Davis, so it's not Davis's fault as much as you'd like it to be. You need to realize that Chris Simms isn't very good. Let me speak for hundreds, if not thousands of posters here at the Clutch BBS and tell you what a moronic statement that was. Shake yourself. Wait a minute, mduke probably agrees with your statement, well that is one poster at least.
Cat, you have to admit, a couple of those sacks seemed like it was Simms' fault. I've never seen a QB go down like that. So easily. On at least two of his sacks, it looked like Simms had alot of room to roam. He has no feel in the pocket.
That shirt is freakin hilarious. Funniest thing is those quotes are 100% real. Mock and Young's mobility is a definite upgrade over Simms. Just hope the coaches have enough confidence in these QB's to stop calling 3 yard routes.
I would put money on them not throwing 7 picks w/no TDs in two years. But I know what you'll say -- "Interceptions aren't a good stat" -- save it. The fact is you're blaming the "routes" (even though there's always a receiver open further downfield -- nobody's forcing Simms to throw when the man's not open), but that doesn't excuse interceptions. Yeah, we know -- Simms is "the most underrated player in the history of sports". Heard it already.
Major Applewhite had more productive games because he was better at improvising and audibiling out of bad plays, and he had Ricky Williams for one of his seasons. Being a good improvisor is nice in a quarterback, but it shouldn't be a requirement when you have the talent that this team has. I realize one thing, that Chris Simms is probably the best quarterback in the (at least recent) history of the University of Texas, and one of the top ones in the country. Greg Davis has had the same offense for years, so it's extremely doubtful that it magically "changes" when there's a scrambling QB. Unless Mock or Vincent has a Brett Favre type ability to improvise, the same thing is going to happen over and over again. I wonder how many players are going to have to underachieve at UT before some fans drop the hard-headed notion that it's the players.
I've seen it in several games. His receivers simply didn't make plays downfield, and there wasn't a lot of room to take off. My seats were in the end zone, so I had a good view of the whole field, since the play was coming at me. I'd put money that they might have three earned interceptions in two years against Oklahoma. Even the best of quarterbacks will often throw three interceptions in two games against a good defense. I don't care about interceptions when a missed block leads to a hit on the arm, when a desperation, almost "hail mary" pass gets intecepted, or when a ball that hits a receiver in the hands gets popped up and intercepted due to a drop.
Ricky Williams must have changed his number and name to # 3 Hodges Mitchell in '99 when Major won the Big 12 Player of the Year along with future Heisman winner Eric Crouch. Whatever. I'll take Gardere and Applewhite over Simms. We will see if its the offense when Simms rides the pine in the NFL next year (as the Iowa State paper said...someone owes Phil a favor and that favor will be to draft Simms).
#2 was pretty funny. I didn't know the "fake" RW was such a cliche talker. If UT doesn't get more hyped up for the OU game than the Baylor game, then something is wrong.
Hodges Mitchell in 99 played a lot better than Benson is this season. You'd probably take any quarterback in Texas history over Simms, so I don't really care about that. And who cares if Simms is on the bench next year? Do you know how few rookie quarterbacks start? It's not as if that proves anything. The only favor anyone drafting Simms will do is to their fans when he turns around their organization.
That would be the year we lost to NC State, got rolled by KSU(great game for the Big XII Plyer of the Year, btw), and went ten quarters w/o a TD, if I recall correctly. Good Times, good times. Question : What does the Quarterback have to do with the unimaginative, and poorly designed running game texas employs?
Are you a moron? I was at the game myself... practically my whole section was yelling obscenities to Greg Davis during the booing.
Puedlfor, one question, was the '99 Texas team as talented as the '01 and '02 Texas teams? NC State - 3 blocked punts K-State - overpowered 0 TD's and 15 turnovers...good times
The fact that he can't execute. I don't care how crappy the scheme is, Simms hasn't shown an ability to really execute in a simplistic offense. What makes you think he can execute in a more complex offense?
