    I am incredibly underwhelmed.

    Seems they realized they couldn't build something on their own, so they take a half-assed 'net gaming system like Xfire and try to Frankenstein it into console work.

    Again Sony half-asses the online thing.

    Reinforces the point that the PS3 is a market lead-in device for BR, not a device designed for gaming.

    Yeah, I'm not too impressed either.. I was looking for a reason why "I have to have their service", but they don’t offer ANYTHING new that isn’t already on the market for an online service..

    you get what you pay for...and in this case you get what looks to be crap.

    $600 system with what looks like really bad online support...

    Hopefully it'll be better than described

    It just seems worst to me because I already pay $120/month for cable and internet, so adding the extra $50/year on top of that seems unecessary.

    BTW, I've been playing PS2 online for a couple years now and don't understand what the fuss is all about. It was about as simple and easy to use as it got to me.

    X-fire sucks.......

    However, X-box live is horrible as a community builder too.....both need to focus more on community building and less on selling stuff......

    They are missing out on what makes Myspace, Facebook, and YouTube so popular, and thus are missing out on the revenues that go along with that.

    i agree with the xboxlive deal. They need to seriously create some kind of social networking via xbox live.

    Isn't it kind of late to just be signing this type of deal? They're going to develop, test, and release this in a matter of 3 months? Or is the article wrong and they've had and agreement for a while?

    This isn't looking very good for Sony.

    I'm about to get a xbox360 but am also planning on getting a PS3... the only way i'm paying $500-600 dollars for a PS3 is if i get both controllers a memory card and a free supscription to "xfire" (which i think will bomb anyway)

    i had a ps2 and played online also.
    xbox live is so supperior.

    especially the 360. can you communicate to your other friends on ps2 when they arent playing the same game?

    i can talk to someone who is playing something else while i play another game and i can receive messages and emails

    its all centralized thats what you are paying for

    i can play call of duty and someone can buzz me to play madden while im still playing. or i can play a game and download a DEMO of another game!

    i can download HD videos, trailers. it so worth the $4 ( 4 whopper jrs/month)

    It's free, and if there will be 60 bazillion users like what Sony is predicting, a centralized server would cost them a lot of money and resources.
