Yeah, I talked a little bit about in the Gaming thread. It looks pretty cool.

Who cares how slim it is, it is still the most underpowered console on the market.

Like I said in the other thread, it will still cost $150 like the other versions, although, IIRC, it comes with a network adapter.

Didn't stop the PSOne from selling quite well. IIRC, it had sold more in Japan than the Xbox.

Exactly. So it took them all this time to actually come out with one with a built in network adapter?

After XBOX comes out and puts it automatically on there. PS2 always said, "well there is no use for it now so we didnt put one on"

That's what they said when i was at E3 a couple years back. But at least XBOX put it on anyways so when they got to that point you didn't have to buy a new part. Smart as hell in my eyes.

I mean XBOX even has a wireless card adapter now. I don't know if PS2 does but they just seem behind now. THey were leading the pack and they just fell behind in my eyes.

Um...I don't think the sole purpose of this was to come out with one that had a network adapter. It is more of a coincedence, IMO. They made the PStwo so that people could have a smaller, "sexier" PS2, just like the PSOne. I think they just threw in the NA just for kicks.

Also, it is cool to put it into the console by default, but that just means the Xbox loses more money for each one sold. They've lost a lot of money for each one that they sold...although that hasn't been much. ;)

This may come back to bite them in the next-gen if they decide to go without some features due to costs. I'm sure Xbox owners won't understand how the original had a hard drive but the next one didn't. Also, Live costs a good amount of money anways, while most PS2 games, IIRC, are free. (except for FFXI off the top of my head)

Sony was kind of smart in a way, although it sucks for us. They make the price of the PS2 cheap compared to what it costs to make it, but they then make us pay for other things that we "need." Smart way to make money.

it's smart business by sony that's all.

You really think they put psONE out purely just on aesthetics alone? They knew that PS2 was going to be released, so they decided to go back to the drawing board and redesign the ps1 so that they can milk whatever's left of the ps1 ALL THE WHILE getting business from the PS2. And they are doing the same exact thing again with this newer model. psONE's gimmick is the optional attached screen...psTWO's gimmick is the built in network adapter.

Even though XBox is gaining some market share, Sony is still tops until the next gen of consoles comes out so why not milk it for all that it's worth like they did with psONE?

Eh...I don't see much reason for it if you already have a good PS2. And it being (supposedly) a top loader almost eliminates the whole purpose of the changes.

Nothing really all that impressive. It isn't even a cool redesign, like the PSOne was. It just...shrunk.

    It is a PS2.....

Most of us already have one, why buy 4 year old technology, when there are 2 better options out there now, and one really good new one coming out in 2005?

    Xenon.

    Now, the PSP, I love.

the same people that bought the psONE. seriously, i was surprised at how well the psONE was selling when it released. Sony's just milking their old hardware for all its worth.

im one of the few that don't have a ps2. xbox here. always wanted a ps2 due to it's large library of games, and besides the ps3 is going to feature backwards compatibility...@$149, why not?
