As part of Gold Box deal of the day, Amazon is offering Sony MDR-XB600 Headphones for $40 + Free shipping.

They usually go for about $90, so its a $50 discount.

This is brand new, not refurbished.

I have 5 pair of headphones and dont need another one, however, I am contemplating getting this one as well because of the attractive price.

Thanks, Zboy... tempting, but I don't need them right now either. I do need 3 or 4 sets of good earphones though.

    Why 3 or 4?

    Intended use?

I prefer good earphones because of compactness and better noise isolation in public areas.

Look at the Sony V6s instead... Amazon has them for $67 right now, and may be better anyway.

If you go to any broadcast or sound production room you'll notice a lot of people wearing the Sony V6's... they have been around forever and have immaculate reception w/ a neutral response. Great if you're mixing music or listening to transcripts.

    But!

For personal use, i would recommend something with a little more oomph/not as dry. The AKG 240 goes for the same price and is great for all genre's of music. Everything else <$100 is not worth it, from Shure to Grado's. I can't stand marketed crap like beats or moda or sol repub... but maybe they get better after 1,000,000 hours of burn in.

Sennheiser, Shure, Grado and Beyer are the mid range, over ear ones to go for.
