This interesting article was posted today by Sean Deveney at Sporting News. I actually enjoy his takes from time to time but this might just give everyone a taste of why Rashard is doing what he's doing. It appears that Seattle played on his talent a bit to much and overhyped the guy in Seattle... example: " a 1,500-square foot billboard -- put up at the Sonics' practice facility, an enormous rendering of Lewis over Seattle."

Pretty crazy for an unproven talent. I can't believe they did that?? Well, at least the article gives us some thoughts on what might really be going through the mind of Rashard.

    Peace and Enjoy!

There is NO WAY I would give Lewis $80 or $90 million. Not a chance! The $60 million offer is very fair. I could see them going as high as $70 or $75 but $90 million???

If the Rockets did a sign-and-trade to get Lewis for that much money, that would be a HUGE mistake. To play here, he'd have to be willing to accept $60 million, MAX. He is not worth the kind of money he wants. Period.

I hope he signs for the exception, then proceeds to be the 4th best offensive player on the team behind Steve, Cuttino, and Mo. After he finishes kicking himself at the end of the season, he might resign with us for a reasonable amount (I have NO idea about the cap implications).

Exactly Jeff. For me, I don't think his value is more than $60M over 7 seasons.

He's just not worth the MAX. To be worth the MAX, you have to be DAMN good at 2 things and good at 2 other things.

Right now, all Lewis can do is shoot. His rebounding we can't take into account, because he was on a team lacking good rebounders, PLUS, he had to play PF a lot.

I admit, he's probably the BEST shooter right now, but still, that's all he does. That's a 3rd or 4th wheel on a team.

Didn't someone say a sign and trade is impossible? Considering the Bulls and Clippers won't help us out? The Bulls wanted Lewis for themselves, and the Clippers are competing with us for a playoff spot. Does anyone else have cap space?

Pretty unbelievable to put an unproven talent on a billboard? Do you really mean to type this? Or do I have to remind you that "Something Big is coMING!" To be honest, Ming is a lot more unproven than Lewis. Course, proven doesn't necessarily mean good.

Now if you had said "Pretty crazy for an UNSIGNED talent", I would agree completely.

The thing is, if the Rockets only had 50 million that they could offer Rashard right now, I have a feeling he would have been in Houston pinstripes on the first day of the free-agent signing period. Does anyone think I'm wrong on this? I always had the impression that Rashard doesn't much like playing in Seattle, and the $90 million was a combination of greed and an indifference to really wanting to play for the Supersonics.
