http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/RocketsSonics_Postgame_Quotes-57593-34.html Rashard Lewis On the game plan: “Our game plan was we tried to pressure Francis and Cuttino and make them put the ball into the other players' hands and make them shoot. I thought we worked our game plan well" So they think everyone else on the Rockets is a scrub? Or that having Cuttino and Francis shoot more than half the Rockets shots is a decrease from some higher percentage?
Rockets less SF & Mobley > 18 for 39 = 46.2% Rockets less SF, Mobley, Rice & Thomas > 54.8% EG = 66.7% ---- is 15 shots enough?
10-15 shots from EG is enough. Probably 10 when MT, Rice and KT get up to snuff. Of course they would want to try to limit Steve and Cat. Who else was going to beat them? EG tried. Mooch, Hawkins, Yao Ming, Cato? A still struggling/injured KT? Rice just coming back?
What kind of crap is that? I think DonKnutts is right, you don't watch too much of NBA basketball. You can leave and take you negative comments with you. We don't need them no mo....
whatever. just shut up. one assist in the third quarter. you cant tell me thats not being selffish. and cuttino mobly is just a ball hoggin fanatic. the rockets could have won that game if they played team basketball. just look at gary payton's team idots, they played a team game. and thanks to the rockets, gary payton has reached his career high 18 assists. and i do watch alot of nba basketball. and our (the rockets) defense is terrible. how many times did francise and mobly leave brent barry open for an easy three pointer???? beside jaquine hawkins, the rockets show no emotion on the basketball court. damn defense translate to easy offensive baskets.
Looking at points per shot, I think the shot selection was pretty good. Here are the players who shot, their total points, their total shots and their points per shot: Francis: 33/22 = 1.50 Mobley: 22/19 = 1.16 Griffin: 23/15 = 1.533 Norris: 10/9 = 1.111 Rice: 4/5 = 0.80 Hawkins: 4/4 = 1.0 Thomas: 1/3 = 0.333 Yao: 0/2 = 0.0 Cato: 0/1 = 0.0 Given Griffin's efficiency, he probably should have gotten the ball more than he did, but he still did shoot it 15 times. Mobley shot too much, given his production; it was a bit of an off night. Can't fault Francis though on scoring 1.5 points on every shot attempt. Norris shot somewhere in the lower reaches of acceptability. But, Rice shooting 1 for 5 and Thomas 0 for 3? Hawkins shot 50% but still wasn't too efficient, making no 3-pointers and getting no free throws. If I was the Sonics, I'd want to force the rest of the team to shoot it too. Of course, the funny part is that they didn't do jack as far as making our other guys shoot it.
For whatever reason, SF had six or seven assists in the first half and only two or three in the second half. That sort of mirrors the effectiveness of our offense as well. If our entire offensive gameplan revolves around his individual talent, I guess that's the way it's going to be, but we stink without him on the court, still. (remembers last year's streak without him)
Maybe it was because people have to hit their shots for there to be an assists. We were not hitting our shots in the third quarter. In the fourth, it was the Francis and Mobley show which almost got us back into the game.
One bad game and the D is terrible. You fail to see that the Sonics played one of the best quarters of their lives. The season just started and everybody is bad mouthing. The fact is we still have players out and others that are adjusting to the league. Until then there are going to be lapses but apparently that's not good enough for you is it. Go learn to spell before you make anymore stupid comments...
themocitydon - our defense begin bad coupled with the sonics hot shooting is the reason we lost. you even say that. so how does that compute to the rockets being the most selfish team in basketball?
Why is the "immaculate shooting" quarter a good excuse? The Sonics shot themselves into an early hole in the first quarter. Cat was cold for a long stretch including the third, but shot himself out of it in the fourth. It all evens out over the course of the game, the Sonics shot 48.1% for the game 61.1% from three point range, great, but only a little better than the Rockets 47.5%/56.3%. It's typical for NBA games to have spurts and surges like this. From what I understand we were not hitting our shots because we got tough shots to hit and they got shots even "high schoolers" can hit in the words of Cuttino. Do we blame awesome Sonics defense or inept offensive plan or inept offensive execution?
Houston is going to be fine, chill out, the Sonics are good, you lost to a good team. No big deal, Cat and Franchis are the team and they have turned your future around.
Seattle's gameplan was to make life difficult for Steve and Cat right? So obviously the Rockets game plan should be to force the action with Steve and Cat? Besides Steve, Cat, Mooch, and Eddie the rest of the team had to share 15 shots... that's not going to get them going! Ask Jason Kidd what happens when you get your teamates involved... I mean, if we're playing a team with a weak backcourt... sure.. Steve, light them up but against Seattle, that's just stupid basketball
According to that quote, the Rockets are doing the right thing. You should do what your opponents fear most, right? Apparently, the opponents mostly fear the ball being in Francis and Mobley's hands. Wow.
Currently, with this Rocket team, is it really that hard for opposing teams to come up with a defensive game plan? .....half-way decent teams.
Not that I agree with him conceptually, but if your criteria for him being wrong is making it relative to other teams, and if the accepted standard of non-selfish play is assists, and if the Rockets are last in the entire league in said category, how can you react with disbelief? Disagreement, maybe, dismay, certainly, but it's not like the man is making insane statements....
Gater, I remember that you broke down the possessions in the 1st quarter, where 25% of our plays were ISO. Did you break down the 3rd at all? Id be interested to see the possession break down on that. My guess would be not nearly as efficient as the 1st.
