http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/basketball/183719_sonx27.html The Sonics have asked about free-agent guard Damon Jones, said his agent, Mark Termini. Jones, who played for the Bucks last season, had the second-best assist-to-turnover ratio behind the Sonics' Antonio Daniels. They have Ridnour and Daniels, yet the Sonics continue to look for a point guard. I have to think they really are not satisfied with Daniels, or don't like that his contract is up in a year.
According to the ESPN report, they really want Ridnour to start this year, but his very poor showing at the Rockie Mountain Revue is giving them second-thoughts. So, this might be a move so they have security in their pg spot. However, I do believe if they get Johns, Daniels will be very expandable for the right price. Let's give them Wilks, Padget and throw in the trainer, then it will be "under the cap now".
It really is interesting that they are shopping for a PG. Clearly that means that they aren't interested in having Daniels back. I wonder why? Ridnour is their PG future but they want another PG on the roster. They wanted Barry to return. They were talking with Fisher. And now they are talking with Jones. I have to believe if the Sonics sign Jones that signals the end of Daniels there. It will make it much easier for the Rockets to pry him loose. If the Sonics sign Jones to part of their MLE, they can trade Daniels to the Rockets for TE money to offset the money they used to sign Jones.
well, i think if they will get damon jones, it will give us more of a chance to get antonio daniels right?
Damon Jones wouldn't be a bad pick-up for the right price, but I would rather get a player that is strickly defense and three point shooting, probably the best complement to a C/SG oriented team (see the Lakers of yesteryear). Besides, if he doesn't work out, he's off the books next year. Jones on the other hand would be with us for another 3-4 years. If Damon Jones wants to help the Rockets, he'll convince the Sonics to trade Daniels to the Rockets.
Have the Bucks decided they aren't going to resign Damon Jones? I really don't understand why they wouldn't bring him back for the insurance in case Ford continues having problems.
I have a gut instinct that they are shopping for a point guard because the Rockets have already made a deal with them for Daniels. As a matter of fact I will be willing to bet money that the Rockets already have the deal in the works but they are working out the details and not wanting to risk another T-Mac debacle they are waiting till all the pieces are in place. Why else would Seattle be doing what they are doing. Mark my words, before the season starts, Antonio Daniels will be the new Rockets point guard.
i really hope you're right. i'm going to come back to this thread when antonio daniels still isn't in a rockets uniform by the start of the season, and then im going to yell at you for jinxing everything!
I hope we get Antonio Daniels. Damon Jones wouldn't be bad. I was standing right behind him yesterday lol.
i talked to him last night at fonde, he told me to start a petition for him to come to houston, so i think he wants to come to houston
Tell him Houston would be glad to have him if he would sign a 3yr 10M contract instead of asking for something like 4 or 5 years at over 20M.
Mostly what I was thinking. If Seattle is looking for another PG, they already have a deal set up for Daniels and just need Jones in the fold to pull the trigger. But, I don't know if that means the Rockets are the trade partner. I don't see why they'd give Daniels away for cap space.
They are a thrify team. If they use their MLE they would jump at the chance to cut some salary via a player on their roster that is superflous.
On Hoopworld.net, a guy writing about the Rocky Mountain Review expresssed a lack of enthusiasm over Ridnour's play. http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_9151.shtml I don't know how reliable this report is, but maybe the Sonics are not convinced of Ridnour's ability to handle major minutes this year (or ever). So they're looking at Jones as either a starter or Daniel's backup. Because he's got good size (6'3" if I'm not mistaken), Seattle might see Jones as a good match with Flip Murray in the second unit. I hope the Rockets give him a look. We had Matt Maloney as a PG on a team that made it to the WCF, and Jones certainly can't be any worse than he.
