Need suggestions from everyone on songs that i should have playing to get people dancing at my wedding. Need songs that cover a few of age brackets, our friends and siblings - 20 to 30s and then the parents, aunties, uncles, family friends - 40 to 50 yr olds. Help!!!!
The Village People. YMCA, everybody LOVES the Village people. Boy George - Do You Really Want to Hurt Me? New Order - Blue Monday Ah-Ha - Take on Me OMD - If You Leave I can't think of any songs from the 80s.
here are some of the ones i have so far B-52s - Rock Lobster John Paul Young - Love is in the air Abba For the oldies Some Beatles Some Elvis - not too much mind you!! Jackson 5 then maybe the standard type groups dancing songs - Nut Bush, Bus stop
I can send you some things via hp or direct, smeg. Novelty songs are fun. Chicken dance, Harlem shuffle, Hokey Pokey (try to get the brave combo v). Disco is good for a few. A little hip hop, a little 6 count rock, something romantic, swing orchestra, Some kitsch, some latin crooners, some kid stuff (britney). IF you mix it well, people will have fun and play with the music after drinking heavily - which should lead to spirited action on the dance floor. Familiarity is a plus, if you want to get your crowd working. Keep your surprises to 2 per hr. Let the people have fun. The people WANT to have fun. The single people WANT to get laid! The married people WANT to get laid! Everyone wants to drink your free booze! Makes for a fun atmosphere. Play with it. Divide your party into 1 hr segements and stage by event. Try to plan music to accompany the traditional segments of the party - ie don't play "me so horny" or "she's having my baby" at a solemn moment. You got arrival, dinner, speech, toasts, cut cake, first dance, dad, mom, wedding party, garter, bouquet, general dance, more raucous dance, bye bye, go home music. "My Funny Valentine" is guaranteed to clear a room in 2 min flat, or leave you with 7 suicides in 200. Just for info. Best wishes, p
Smeg: One of my closest friends has a DJ business on the side... http://www.djbrothers.com/ He has lists on his site of songs for weddings that are most requested, but I've helped him on some DJ gigs and I'll give you the list he calls "the big guns". In other words, songs that always get people dancing. YMCA - Village People Grease MegaMix - John Travolta & Olivia Newton John We Are Family - Sister Sledge Come on Ride the Train - Quad City DJ's Boot Scootin' Boogie (for country music fans) - Brooks & Dunn The Twist - Chubby Checker Twist and Shout - The Beatles (preferably played right after The Twist) Get This Party Started - Pink The Chicken Dance - Myron Floren Celebration - Kool & the Gang Lady Marmalade - LaBelle That's The Way I Like It - KC and the Sunshine Band Shout - Eisley Brothers Gettin Jiggy Wit It - Will Smith Play that Funky Music - Wild Cherry Shake Your Groove Thing - Peaches & Herb Hot in Here - Nelly (this one just became a big gun) Those are the biggies that will get just about anyone on the dance floor.
what about these?? Abba I will survive Dancing Queen It's Raining Men Oh What a night Funky Town Saturday night Fever Blister in the Sun You can call me Al
I Will Survive is definitely good. Dancing Queen is on my buddy's master list as is Funky Town and a few songs off of Saturday Night Fever. I think It's Raining Men depends on the wedding. Blister in the Sun is usually too alt for older folks or people who don't really listen to music. You Can Call Me Al isn't very popular. Check the list here... http://www.djbrothers.com/top200_full.html That has just about everything.
Smeg, don't forget: I like Big Butts... by SirMixALot Let's Pretend We're Married by Prince Special Secret Song Inside by Red Hot Chilli Peppers Sink the Pink by AC/DC This covers the in-law target audience.
It's funny that you mention those Achebe. Baby Got Back is hugely popular at weddings. And, quite often, there will be someone that requests P* Control by Prince. I always find that odd, but whatever.
lol, I'm actually afraid that if I hadn't gotten married in Vegas I may have had to watch my mom request Baby Got Back, and then start shaking it.
Of course you may want to fade it before you get to the line, "I want to f*@k the taste out of your mouth." Just a suggestion.
LOL funny you should say that, the song we doing our first dance to has a F%#k in it, should go down nicely with the conservative fuddy duddy in laws
