Over the years, there have been many great songs, and many songs that have lyrics that just don't seem to make sense or are jibberish. I've always wondered what they mean. I have excluded all Michael Jackson songs because I can't even spell what he is singing, other than "He, Heeeee".

"Pass the duchie on the left hand side"

"Wrapped up like a douche? another runner in the night"

If you know what these words mean, lemme know. I know there are other songs that make this list, but can't think of them right now.

"Pass the duchie on the left hand side" - Sounds to me like they are saying to pass the joint to the left. Not sure how else you could interepret that.

The lyrics for "Blinded by the light" actually say :
"Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night". I really don't know what that means, but they don't say douche.

On Springsteen's orignal version, you can decipher the lyric easily. It got mangled to "douche" on Manfred Mann's horrendous version of the song.

"Pass the dutchie" means pass the joint.

I think the obvious "what the hell are they saying" lyrics has to be "Louie Louie". I remember hearing that the government was concerned with this song because they thought pro-Communist messages were being transmitted somehow. They never could prove or disprove the claims.

As far as the reggae genre is concerned, I get lost whenever I listen to Eek-a-mouse or Mikey Dread.

Motorhead, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Bob Dylan...just to mention a few.

Oh come on now. The first time I heard this version of the song was during one of my favorite movies, "Blow." That scene where they start playing this song is one of the best moments in movie history. Ok maybe not for most, but I love it.

I cannot believe they ever release the song with "deuce" pronounced like that. There's no way that sounds like any other word.

I must've listened to "c*m On Feel The Noize" by Quet Riot about a zillion times and I still swear that during the chorus where they sing "Girls rock your boys", they're not always saying rock. Of course you can figure out the alternative language to fit in instead of rock.

in Too Much...Dave doesn't always say, "suck it up..suck it up." sometimes he substitutes another word for suck which rhymes with suck.

The lyrics in the original are "girls grab your boys".

I've never heard him say "Pluck it up".

Other than Ed Vedder, does anyone know what is actually being sung in "Even Flow" other than the chorus?

It is "revved up like a Deuce" although Springsteen's version (as opposed to the version by Manfredd Mann) said "cut loose like a Deuce."

Deuce was a car from the 50's as in "My Little Deuce Coupe" by the Beach Boys. Here's a pic of a Deuce Coupe:

The lyric was meant to describe a person pumped up on adrenaline. They lyrics to that song are pretty unreal if you read them.

The one I screwed up until Mrs JB corrected me (while laughing :) ) was Voices Carry by 'Til Tuesday. I thought it was:

    Hush, hush.
    Even downtown,
    Voices carry.

    In reality, it is...

    Hush, hush.
    Keep it down, down.
    Voices carry.

I guess I saw the video where they were at that theater all dressed up and I got "down, down" mixed up with "downtown." :)

Manny, I have posted these before. Copy them down this time;)

    Even Flow

Freezin', rests his head on a pillow made of concrete, again
Oh, Feelin' maybe he'll see a little betters any days
Oh, head down, faces that he sees don't look it ain't that
    familiar
Oh, girlfriend he can't have when he's happy looks insane, oh
    yeah

    Even flow
    thoughts arrive like butterflies
    Oh, he don't know
    so he chases them away
someday yet he'll begin his life again
    Life againn

Kneelin', looking through the paper though he doesn't know to
    read
Prayin', now to something that has never showed him anything
Oh, feelin', understands the weather or that winters on its
    way, yeah
Oh, ceilins people fall between all the legal halls of shame

    Even flow
    thoughts arrive like butterflies
    Oh, he don't know
    so he chases them away
someday yet he'll begin his life again
    Whispering hands, carry him away
    him away, him away
    yeah!
    woo
    oh yeah yeah

How about J Geils Band, with Centerfold...... If you're not listening closely, it sounds like

My anus is the center hole

    when it should be.......

    My angel is the centerfold

I have that book "Excuse Me Why I Kiss this Guy" about misinterpreted song lyrics. It has a ton of them in there, including a bunch of Pearl Jam songs....especially Jeremy.

Have you heard Aimee Mann's new album "Lost In Space"? My good friend Michael Lockwood plays guitar all over it. It's a fine CD...for non-blues music!;)

Speaking of DMB, I've got a question about the lyrics to Digging A Ditch.

After he says "run to your dreaming, when you're alone", what's the next line?

It sounds like 'now do idea should be or what if they come", but that doesn't make any sense.
