lately, everytime it gets very quiet we make a move. The new staff does a good job of keeping things hush hush especially right before something heppens. we knew that we were gonna sign pike. then we knew that we "were interested in stephen jackson.", but out of nowhere we turn around and sign griffin instead. it hasn't been this quiet for this long since the offseason began. this is not because we are done and not looking to add players anymore. we know that we have half the MLE and half the $1M exception left. we also know that we want to add a PG and a post player. so with two players left to go, and maybe even a trade in the works, why is it so quiet? somethings up......
Face it people, there aint gonna be no splash. You will be lucky if there is a plop... and even that I have doubts about.
yeah We're bring back the Dream to play another season !!!! LOL LOL JUST KIDDING! ARGH I'm BORED!!!!!!! Anyone wanna meet up at Brian O'neals for a drink.....?
the quiet time is always strange.....IMHO, watch very carefully a couple of seemingly insignificant moves and developments in the East: -Teams wanting or needing cap space -Teams that have amassed in the offseason or will amass and seemingly have an overabundance skilled players at one position (Guards/Small Forwards) -Teams requiring centers or powerforwards Key Points to Ponder while watching the events above: -Rice is very attractive for some teams. He can possibly contribute as a backup this year (still has his shot every 2 or 3 games), but the risk is minimal because he comes off at 9 mil next year. -We have no 3. JVG will not and cannot go into the season without a starting 3. Griffin and Pike are role players only. -Cato is a nice to have as a backup to Ming, but he can start for some teams in the East and do quite well. That is attractive bait. -Griffin or Taylor need a change in scenery -Mobley needs to come off the bench -JVG loves Mark Jackson and Ward and Chris Childs
Why does everyone insist a near 20 ppg scorer for 2+ seasons whose head is up his arese sometimes but doesn't take that many more shtos than your average starting 2 guard, should come off the bench. Don't get me wrong, I think a lot of people on this board overestimate his defense (which certainly looks good next to Steve's, but ain't great), but why do people assume Van Gundy sees Mobley as a backup for this team. In either case, it would be prudent, if Van Gundy did see Mobley as a backup, it would be prudent for the Rockets to trade him - he's a starter on any other team without an all-star SG and he has a great contract on a $/production basis. Nick Van Exel is still a very good player, but he doesn't do anything Mobley can't. Off the bench, Mobley would be just as much, if not moreso, an energizer as NVE was for Dallas last year, and if NVE can get you Jamison, Mobley should be able to get you something good (Shareef Abdur Rahim? - Mobley + Rice for Rahim? - Atlanta would probably do it, but myswell wait till mid season when Atlanta will give him away for Rice and a bag of chips for cap room most likely).
Gater: Let me clarify for those who cannot fathom reality We have no viable/potent/realistic/proven 3. Rice has proven is starting role is limited and he cannot defend consistently. Nachbar is a very very raw talent. Playing the 3 this year will be a learning experience--not something you really want at this point. should get minutes, but starting? Watch developments in the East IMHO
Can Glen Rice net us another capable SF? Jonathan Bender, Al Harrinton, Matt Harpring, SAR are all people I'd love to see here.
Check out my thread on Glen Rice's expiring contract. I agree that it should net us something. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63211
lamar odom's possible venture in Miami does present interesting possibilities for the Rox if there were some cap considerations involved. JVG is an eastern guy and Miami has had players present him with headaches in the past. If the Clips let Odom go and it looks like a 90% guarantee, Miami is stocked up at the 2 and 3......They also have no real center solution and PF.....Rice lives in Miami (though minor detail)
I would be very surprised, if we do a deal, that it's with someone in our division. (unless we rape them- ) That would exclude Dallas, Memphis and Utah.
Many of you fail to realize that Miami needs players. Trading Rice for Odom doesn't help Miami in the least. They have similar 2003-04 contract values and this doesn't help Miami fill out it's roster. IMO, the only players Miami would send out for Rice would be Jones or maybe Grant. And that's been discussed more times than I want to recall. Why is it so hard to realize that the team is basically set for 2003-04 except for some role player roster spots? Sorry, but this is it.
