a horrible loss to Utah. Many things to blame, SF again had a bad game. Rox had no answer to Kirilenko in the 4th. Inspite of the seemingly decent stats, 20/10, Yao was annoying. I am tired of his short turn arround jumper/fade away. Yao, if you can consistently make more than 50%, every one including the JVG will shut up and be happy with your Shanghai shake. If you cannot, Yao you have to change then. I think Yao has to do at least two things. Go inside and Jump forward! When you go inside, you can then work your shooting and improve the percentage. Shooting percentage is always higher from the paint than from parameter. If you stay with the base line turn arround, you will never reach 60% shooting, because nobody can. When you jump, jump forward. When you jump forward, you initiate contact, if the ball will ot fall, you go to the line. When you fade way, nobody will get a chance to foul you. Defensively, Yao has to jump to grad rebound. JUMP!JUMP! I am tired of his reaching out for rebound, he missed a lot. I do not understand why he was not embarassed when the board was grab away by a much small player.
welcome to the board. For your future reference, the sticky game thread at the top should be where posts like this go. Or even the thread entitled "Yao has softened" might be a better place for this. It isnt always necessary for new threads when there are existing threads that would cover your thoughts.
He will get offensive foul if he leans forward. This league is full of floppers, and refs buy their acts.
I started this It's all for me What's yours is mine and mine is mine That's plain to see So give it up I've got to have I SWALLLOW, I SWALLLOW, I SWALLLOW, I SWALLLOW Be aggressive B-e aggressive B-e-a-g-g-r-e-s-s-i-v-e What someone else Would leave behind And spit it out, let go to waste I claim as mine You're my flavour of the week I SWALLLOW, I SWALLLOW, I SWALLLOW, I SWALLLOW Tall and reckless Ugly seed Reach down my throat You filthy bird That's all i need The empty pit I've got to feed To prove i'm fit A healthy man I've got to be Malnutrition, my submission You're the master and I take it on my knees Ejaculation Tribulation I SWALLLOW, I SWALLLOW, I SWALLLOW, I SWALLLOW Be aggressive B-e aggressive B-e-a-g-g-r-e-s-s-i-v-e Go, Fight, Go, Fight, Go, Fight, Go, Fight, Win - Faith No More
This may not be as eloquent as DD put it, but Yao needs to grow some balls and stop playing like he's 6'8''. This is nothing new and I'm not sure he'll ever have that fire. I mean he says things like this after a tough loss; Yao Ming, the Rockets' 7-foot-6 center from China: "Playing in Utah is so very tiring, because you can't make the sea level go down."
UTweezer, you have made a good point. Yao probably thought he was doing OK in the tough loss. It seemed he sit on the 20/10 stat very comfortably. This is sad. This is lack of aggresiveness. I never think one has to be physical in order to be aggresive. Aggresive is about the attitude. When someone dunk over you, you have to make sure next time you will slam him on to the floor. When the board was stolen by someone, you have to let him know what your elbow is next time. When nobody in the team can shoot from parameter, you have to shoot the ball down low. These are aggresiveness. I agree he may never have the fire. That's why I say he has to realize the minimal requirement for a center. When you are under the basket and jump to shoot, you can draw shooting foul. While if you fade away at the baseline, you can not even draw a foul. When you jump to grab board, you draw loose ball foul. When you reach for the board, people steal away the board with no foul. It's simple! And they are things a center must do.
I have a perfect solution for Yao. Make him watch hours upon hours of the big 'fundamental' Tim Duncan on video and have him practice what he learns out on the court. I know he will NEVER be Tim Duncan but if he just learns a few things from him he will be a HOF type center.
You know what would be just dandy? If he jumped straight up rather than back or forth. Yao did a decent job, the problem is that the other players didn't capitalize on the attention he got. We need one more shooter, prefferably a PG.
He should dunk the ball! He's so tall, damn and he gets blocked by Kirilenko alias AK47. Ewing should bump and thump him. Patrick should teach him that these freaking jump shots just won't do with all the athletic shot blockers in the league - no matter if he is 7'6".
We should be patient with his aggressive game. Even JVG asks Yao to play his own game. If he hurries to change, his FG% will go down tremendously. He has not had the physical strength to play like Shaq. But his skill level is much better. By playing his own play with gradual improvement in the physical department. He will single-handedly win us some games as we witnessed in this season. Considering he has had a stomach fluin the last three games, he was doing fine. His FG% was below his average in the Utah game. Yet, Utah plays very rough with one in front and the other on his back against him. That's why he was blocked so many times because he often forced a shot with two men on him. Another reason of course was, when he passed out of double team, the perimeter players could not make it. Yes, he had many foul calls in his favour; but it should have been more calls. In fact, if you add all this FT to his credit shot, his FG% was above 40%, not too bad for a sick man being double teamed when the guards failed to drop the wide open shots.
so sad!! his calves are pulling him down..if yao was bigger on top and slimmer on the bottom...he would be UNSTOPPABLE, but he's got no HOPS if he did, all they would have to do is feed him alley oops like cato (havent seen that in awhile)...and needs more flexibility in shooting, he's TOO fundamental and STIFF which makes him so damn PREDICTABLE!!! all he has to do is post up down low with that big Fannie of his spread his arms and catch the freakin ball, but unfortunately we have the WORST passers in the game!!
Yao is a gentle giant, that's his nature from his demeanor and from his conversations. Is it possible for that to change??? Could someone give names of players who started as gentle giants and turned Shag-like???????
Were they gentle giants to begin with???? I recall Jabber as a finesse player with most of his points from skyhooks. Skyhooks was his trademark, not dunks.
