    Houston trades: Glen Rice, Maurice Taylor, Kelvin Cato, Moochie Norris, Bostjan Nachbar

    Houston receives:Jeff McInnis, Ruben Patterson, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Nazr Mohammed

    Change in team outlook: +10.3 ppg, +2.2 rpg, and +1.8 apg.

    New York trades: Charlie Ward, Kurt Thomas, Travis Knight, Antonio McDyess

    New York receives: Maurice Taylor, Kelvin Cato, Moochie Norris, Damon Stoudamire

    Change in team outlook: +1.0 ppg, +1.4 rpg, and +0.2 apg.

    Atlanta trades: Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Nazr Mohammed

    Atlanta receives: Derek Anderson, Kurt Thomas, Travis Knight

    Change in team outlook: +5.3 ppg, +1.2 rpg, and +3.5 apg.

    Portland trades: Jeff McInnis, Damon Stoudamire, Derek Anderson, Ruben Patterson

    Portland receives: Glen Rice, Bostjan Nachbar, Charlie Ward, Antonio McDyess

    Change in team outlook: -16.6 ppg, -4.8 rpg, and -5.5 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

    Rockets get a decent backup point guard in McInnis, an all star PF in Rahim and Nazr Mohammed is more than a workable backup for Yao. Ruben Petersen will profide the toughness at 3 and do the dirty work.

    New York gets a true Cnter in Cato and a decent offensive PF in Taylor. The might mouse is still better than the PG NY has. Norris is a throw in for salary purpose.

    Atlanta gets decent value for Rahim.

    Portland dumps all the disgrunted players and their contracts for the expiring contracts. If Dice comes back strong then that is an additional bonus.

    The only thing someone would jump on you about this trade would be Portland not accepting, and claiming the trade rips them off. Here's your anwer to why Portland will accept. Portland is is desperate need for cap relief, as they are about 50 million over the cap. In this trade, they get Charlie Ward, Antonio McDyess, and Glen Rice. Combine that with Rasheed Wallace, and they get near 50 million in cap relief next season. And remember, ever dollar spent over the salary cap is another dollar. So in reality, Portland will save 100 million. And plus, McDyess will come back to form, so he may contribute. The rest looks good to me, as the rest of the teams benifit.

    sure, something for everybody....knicks get what now

    New York trades: Charlie Ward, Kurt Thomas, Travis Knight, Antonio McDyess

    New York receives: Maurice Taylor, Kelvin Cato, Moochie Norris, Damon Stoudamire

    Dice for Taylor, even if dice doesnt come back, y do they trade kurt thomas and dice for taylor and cato? Both overpaid, plus charlie ward for over over over over paid damon and moochie, thats gotta be the worst gaurd/power combo, none of those players start for their teams, and they trade away all of their starters for them

    There are at least three serious problems with your logic...

    1) It is not likely that the LTax will kick in after the coming season because BRI is going to go up substantially in year 2 of the ESPN/ABC contract. Due to an anomaly in the contract, year 1 was very low...hence an LT for 2002-03.

    2) The expiring contracts do not equal $50m:

    Ward = $6m
    Rice = $9.5m
    McD = $13.5m
    Wallace = $16.5m

    That's $45.5m by my count.

    3) Rasheed Wallace will hit the Blazers cap enough that they will have to either renounce or re-sign him at market value. If they renounce him, they still barely have cap room and if they re-sign Wallace, they no longer have cap space.

    The trade places POR somewhere near but not substantially under the cap. IOW, they will no longer have Stoudemire, McInnis, Anderson or Patterson and have to rebuild their team with re-signing Wallace, vet exceptions and the MLE.

    I'm sorry but if the Blazers put the following team on the court in 2003-04:

    1) Ward
    2) Wells
    3) Woods / Rice / Nachbar
    4) Wallace / McD / Randolph / T. Outlaw
    5) D. Davis / Boumte-Boumte

    there will be mass rioting in Portland. The proposed trade rapes the TrailBlazers.

    Stoudamire
    Houston
    Van Horn
    Taylor
    Cato

    is a better lineup than

    Ward
    Houston
    Nailon
    Van Horn
    Thomas

    Cato is a real center, a rare commodity in the East. Taylor Gives them scoring in the post, something they just don't have in NY. Van Horn is allowed to play the SF so he can hang around out on the perimeter all day, just like he always does. Mighty Mouse is actually a pretty good PG, despite being overpaid. Now, if McDyess could ever stay healthy, it wouldn't be such a great deal, but chances are NY learned their lesson with Camby.

    How many 4 way trades involving 15 players have ever been completed in the NBA? That should end any arguments right there.

    There are so many things wrong with the logic here that I don't know where to begin.

    I also don't know how Portland would react to this deal, even though they get MASSIVE cap relief.

    Golden State trade Jamison, Welsch, Fortson, and Mills for Van Exel, Popeye, Eschemeyer, and Avery.

    If cap space is as valuable to Portland as it is to Golden State, then I guess they'd say yes.

    I don't buy this "if you're over the cap, it doesn't matter by how much, as long as you're not in luxury tax land" stuff...

    If Golden State was just a little over the cap than WAY over the cap, they'd have Gilbert Arenas right now.

    We seriously underestimate cap flexibility on this board.

    However, if I had to make a conclusion, I say Portland turn this offer down. But New York would be looking very good after this:

    Cato/Lampe
    Taylor/Lampe/Sweetney
    Van Horn/Sweetney/Shandon
    Houston/Shandon
    Damon/Moochie/Eisley

    That's a major improvement over their current team. They do, however, HAMMER themselves financially. Taylor, Cato, Moochie, Stoudamire, Shandon, Houston and Van Horn are not great contracts.

    However, I think that team could be a 3rd seed in the East.
