it's irrelevant, the Texans will never win anything in our lifetime b/c of one pick.

QB- Schaub(hasn't played much but has promise of leadership)
RB- Ahman Green(used to kick ass, now kinda getting old),
Ron Dayne(big bruiser back that can move piles),
Samkon Gado(did well at GBay a few years ago but hasn't done much lately),
Wali Lundi(showed some sparks in his first year),
Chris Taylor (played well when he had the chance last year)
WR- Andre Johnson(pro bowler, top 6 receiver in the NFL),
    Andre Davis(fast but can't catch), J
    acoby Jones(2nd round pick returnman),
    Kevin Walter(white guy)
    TE- Mark Bruener(blocking TE)
Owen Daniels(good reciever TE that did well last year)
    Jeb Putzier (blocker mostly)
    OL- J.Black(average free agent signing)
    M.Flanagan(Great veteran leader)
    S.McKinney( Decent veteran)
Chester Pitts(finally starting to be a good lineman)
Charles Spencer(amazing rookie that broke his leg, might never play again)
DL- Babin(a reserve and former first rounder that hasn't shown up much)
M Williams(has a promising future and should do tons better this year)
Okoye(first rounder pick is only 20 yrs old and should do well on my Madden franchise for years to come)
    Maddox(did well last year)
LB- D.Ryans(Pro Bowler this year, led NFL in tackles his rookie year last year.)
    S. Barber (oldie but has veteran leadership)
Morolon Greenwood(should start and did a decent job last year)
DB- Dunta Robinson(struggled last year but should return to near pro bowl form with speed and coverage)
J.Fletcher(highly touted rookie never lived up to expectations in miami, kinda a patrick buchanon except a bit better.)
Faggins(always comes to work as mostly a back up but could start this year)
Special Teams- K.Brown(average kicker, makes some great long ones and misses some puts.)
    Stanley(usually a very nice punter)
Coaches- Kubiak = QB mastermind, actually has someone with a brain this year, should mean success.
Prediction- bright future but with Schaub I can't say cause I've never seen him play with us. I think we might get 8 wins

Good Summary. Just a few notes:

QB- Schaub: He really hasn't shined in the few games he has played but he still seems to be a highly regarded backup across the league. I think there is something to him that just hasn't shown up in the stat department. Not sure. Andre has said that Schuab is more of a leader than Carr.

RB- Dayne ended the season really well. The issue with him is consistency. It's hard to believe after being in the league so long that he now finds it. The good thing about him is that he doesn't need excellent lineman. He can power through a defense. I think he plans on being THE back on the team but it's nice he'll have some competition for the spot.

DL- Babin: Should be A LOT better this year. We drafted him as a defensive end but moved him to linebacker in the 3-4 defense. He never really made the adjustment. Last year he was thrown back on the line after 2 years as a LB and never really found a rhythm. I don't think that is his fault. Guys on the defense have said that they had no plan going into last year. They were all just sort of reacting. Babin said they had a well paced off season and the defense will be better organized and he will be a better end. The Babin situation reminded me a good mitch hedberg joke: "If you are a comedian, people ask you to do things that are related to comedy. It's like being a comedian, but not quite. Write a script, they'll say, or act. Act in this sitcom. It's not fair! It's like, if you were a chef, and you'd worked your ass off to become a really good chef all your life, they'd come up to you and say "Great! You're a chef. Can you farm?"

Okoye- He's going to a bright point for this Dline. He had a lot of sacks in college and should become even better as he matures. He'll line up on the right side with Mario which will give the Texans a mean force from the QB's blindside.

Ryans- The best draft pick IMO in the 06 draft. This guy should have been a 1st rounder. I think too much is made of his tackle total though. When your LB has a lot of takedowns, it means your DL is not very good. Nevertheless, he is a great player and will be the focal point of what should be a top half of the league defense.

Kubiak- Great QB coach. Andre said that Capers would tell Carr to just get rid of the football and not make any reads from the Secondary. As you can imagine, Carr struggled in the new system. We're still waiting for the miracle back he's suppose to find late in the draft.

Ultimately this team is very young and unproven. The only guys we can really count on to perform at a high level right now are Andre Johnson, Demeco Ryans, and Dunta Robinson. Ahman Green is certainly proven, and I think he can have a 1200 yard season, though age is a factor with him. Mario Williams should have a much better season as well, and Okoye should be an improvement over our pathetic DT play last season.

Other than that, a lot is up in the air and will come down to whether some of the unproven guys step up. The defense was top 10 over the second half of last season, and I think they can do at least that well all season. The offense is the question mark...

From all accounts I've heard Schaub is a much better decision maker at QB, but he isn't polished. We have more depth at RB than ever, but will one guy step up (Ahman?) and shoulder the load? Kevin Walter is a solid possession guy at WR, but it would really be huge if Jacoby Jones or Andre Davis came through in a big way to give us another deep threat. Owen Daniels is solid at TE. O-line should improve a little, but probably not enough to become what I would call "good".

I think the thing I like most about this team right now is coaching. Kubiak seems to have a winning mentality that I think the players buy into, and because of him I can envision this team overachieving and having an 8 or 9 win season. I'd say ordinarily they would be a 6 or 7 win team.

Basically the offensive skill possessions are set, except we could use another proven wide receiver. Our RB tandem should be pretty good. 100 times better than last year. AJ also said (or implied in so many words) Shaub even throws the ball better than Carr as well.

I think we could hit .500 next year. But i wouldn't get too excited since the trenches still need some work as well as we still need to improve the safety/corner department. Daunte Robinson is nowhere near Champ Bailey status and the others in the back field aren't Duante Robinson status. Next year's draft needs to focus on getting an impact O-Lineman and safety/corner.

2 more years drafting and signing the right players and they should be worth watching if all goes well. I see the whole Texans situation as basically starting over with Kubiak and the statement said when we got the team that in 3 years we'll be playoff contenders.

    http://www.houstontexans.com/team/depthchart.html

Unofficial depth chart as of today

    OFFENSE
WR Andre Johnson/ David Anderson/ Jacoby Jones/ Harry Williams
LT Ephraim Salaam/ Jordan Black/ Charles Spencer/ Brandon Frye
LG Chester Pitts/ Scott Jackson/ Mike Brisiel
    C Mike Flanagan/ Steve McKinney/ Drew Hodgdon/ Chris White
RG Fred Weary/ Steve McKinney/ Atlas Herrion/ Kasey Studdard
RT Eric Winston/ Ephraim Salaam/ Brandon Frye
TE Owen Daniels/ Mark Bruener/ Jeb Putzier/ Ben Steele
WR Kevin Walter/ Jerome Mathis/ Charlie Adams/ Andre' Davis
QB Matt Schaub/ Sage Rosenfel/ Bradlee Van Pelt / Quinton Porter
RB Ahman Green/ Ron Dayne / Wali Lundy / Samkon Gado
    FB Vonta Leach/ Jameel Cook/

<> Jacoby Jones is a bit of a project but not behind David Anderson. Just filling out names there
<> I'd move Pitts back to tackle but I guess he's very good at guard. Frandon Frye's a very good athlete for an O-lineman they say. Lets see if he can be a better than Seth Wand type of project.
<> Interesting they have McKinney NOT starting? That might be a good sign
<> I'm fine with Winston at right tackle, to see if he's the real deal
<> Can't be too worried about the TE's. Especially if Daniels can keep doing what he did last year & all the time
<> Puh-LEAZE someone emerge from the WR group as a secondary option. Andre' Davis isnt 4th string, expect him to get a chance.
<> Didnt think itd feel so refreshing NOT seeing...we know who there at QB
<> RB looks okay to me. Though only one guy can get the ball. Chris Taylor deserves another look. I don't mind Samkon Gado but if we can trade him somehow I'd be fine with that
<> Who really worries about FB?

    DEFENSE
    LDE Anthony Weaver/ N.D. Kalu/ Alfred Malone/ Earl Cochran
DT Amobi Okoye/ Travis Johnson/ Thomas Johnson
NT Anthony Maddox/ Jeff Zgonina / Cedric Killings/Tim Bulman
    RDE Mario Williams/ Jason Babin
SLB Shantee Orr/ Charlie Anderson/ Danny Clark/ Trent Bray
    MLB DeMeco Ryans/ Danny Clark/ Zac Diles/
    WLB Morlon Greenwood/ Shawn Barber/ Zac Diles/
LCB Dunta Robinson/ Von Hutchins/ Chris McKenzie/ Jason Horton
RCB Demarcus Faggins/ Jamar Fletcher/ Dexter McCleon/ Fred Bennett
    SS Glenn Earl/ Roc Alexander/ Brandon Harrison/
    FS C.C. Brown/ Jason Simmons/ John Walker/ Curry Burns

<>Anthony Weaver is actually a good run-stopping DT. Can get away with him at end to let the youngsters develop.
<>DT, just like last year a bunch of guys to fill in. Hopefully Okoye will be a stud at the position for himself. Thomas Johnson's a hothead it appears. Travis Johnson, eeeh...improved but shouldnt be getting beat out by Anthony Maddox
<>I'm excited about this position. Mario should only improve, and he should be HEALTHY. Babin led the team in sacks last year, not bad...
<>Yippee for Demeco. Thanks for offering the team hope. Just think of how meeeeeeediocre last year would have been without him  The other linebackers, what you see there is what you get. A bunch of decent veteran fill-ins (What happened to Troy Evans?)
<>Its time for me to go home from work. And my head's hurting, partly caused by looking at the options there at secondary.... :( Jamar Fletcher (former 1st rounder) can emerge like Petey Faggins from a couple years ago. John Walker is a very good athlete. Hopefully Glenn Earl and CC Brown have gotten their acts together and will improve on possibly the weakest positions of the team.

What are you, like in your 70s?

There is more parity in Football than any other sport. It doesn't take long to turn around a franchise.

Zabranski is on a non-guaranteed contract right now and will compete for the 3rd string QB with Bradley Van Pelt and Quinn Porter.

If the consensus on Schaub is correct (that he is accurate, smart and decisive) then I predict a breakout year for Owen Daniels. The guy isn't especially fast, but he had a great knack last year for finding the open spaces on the field. He had a pretty good receiving year even with Carr having a subpar one, so I have high hopes for him. Also, Schaub has to be at least somewhat used to finding his TE after playing with Crumpler.

Perhaps if Daniels becomes a real receiving threat, teams will stop loading up on Andre.
