My gawd, he can't get out anybody...why, in the middle of a pennant race, does Williams run him out there. If he gets ONE SOLID INNING out of the guy he should count his blessings and remove him immediatly.

The Stros have no room for error, and Milicki is an error waiting to happen....

OH CRAP he just gave up the go ahead run....AGAIN !!!

    WILLIAMS......get in the game !!!

    Milicki = Lima

I see no difference.......the point is that Williams should NOT be pitching him when the games matter so much.

Run him out there in games that are out of touch.

PS. The padres STINK on the road, if the Astros want to see why they are not going to make the playoffs it is because they lose too often to the Pirates, Padres, Cubs etc...all teams they should OWN.

    Great moves Williams....

Milicki, Borbon and Cruz in the same inning, why not just GIVE the Padres some runs.

I do not like Williams all that much.....at least Dierker knew how to manage pitchers.

The brilliant MilickiBorbonCruz pitching machine gave up a tidy 7 runs in the 7th inning to completely blow any chance the Stros had of winning this game and gaining ground on the Cardinals.

This team has no margin of error and Williams pitching moves are not helping, they are suspect at best.

He should leave his starters in a bit more and let them get out of jams, after all outside of Dotel the starters are the best pitchers on the team.

And like that, its 11-6, with homers from Biggio and Berkman. Wait, 11-6. Nevermind, that's still pretty bad. :(

Well, I don't like Mlicki, but I can't bring myself to get upset at Jimy for pitching him tonight. I mean, Carlos couldn't even last 3 innings...and Mlicki is our long relief. Outside of Gordon, Wagner and Dotel, we have Ricky Stone, Borbon, Cruz, Mlicki and I think Jim Mann. That doesn't leave Jimy many options to try to get late into the game with a lead. It just sucks that we don't have any reliable long relief.

    Raven,

Leave Carlos in there a bit, let him work himself out of trouble, he is better then any of those middle relievers.

So he gave up 4 runs...big deal.....let him pitch a bit longer so that your bullpen is a strength not a weakness.

i didn't see the game so i don't know how carlos actually looked but 4 runs isn't that much. i'd rather him pitch than mlicki, who should never pitch out of the bullpen and preferably not the rest of the year.

Jimy's got too much faith in pitchers that suck it up and not enough faith in his young studs like Oswalt and Hernandez. With Gordon, Dotel, and Wagner all rested, theres no excuse for pitching Mlicki (who has absolutely stunk since coming off his injury) in a tie ballgame in the 7th. That's fine if he wants his pitchers to stay fresh, but let them do it in non-crucial situations. We can't keep giving games away while we get all our crappy relievers work so everybody can be fresh in the playoffs that we are seeing slip out of our reach. Dammit, why can't Oswalt and Miller pitch everyday?

Isn't Carlos just coming off of an injury himself (i.e. isn't this just his 2nd start since returning from the DL)? If so, and he's getting rocked out there early, it's not prudent to leave him out there at the risk of him reinjuring himself or simply getting destroyed and losing all confidence. Were he not injured, then it probably would've been best to leave him in the game...however, you have to work with what you have.

Right now, the Astros bullpen has been pretty much overused, especially the big 3, so you almost have to rely on the starters to pitch themselves out of jams and deep into games. But, with a talented young pitcher like Carlos just coming off of an injury, you simply can't take that risk.

Mlicki did well earlier in the season, at least as a starter. He may still be coming back from injury himself and may not have been the best choice to trot out there. But, what can you do? You can't rest all of your relievers when Roy and Wade pitch at the risk of running up Oswalt and Miller's pitch counts. All you can do is hope the relievers come out of their jams...and remember that it's just one game.

you guys are getting really upset over nothing.
in three days all of this wont matter and everyone will be sitting at home starting to think about football.
this season will end with nothing.
i would yell along with you, if they werent going to strike.
but it all seems so futile.

    Sure,

Why pitch Dotel in the 7th and 8th, or Gordon, better to give the game away...right?

Gordon has a sore arm & was unavailable last night. My only problems were Borbon being left in to face Matos (Borbon should never face a righty) & Cruz being used in that situation. Game was still close (6-4), no outs & bases loaded. You need groundballs or strikeouts in that situation, and since Stone went earlier, Dotel was the best chance to get out of that inning with minimal damage.

Carlos pitched like utter & complete caca, can't fault Jimy for pulling him; 67 pitches in 2 1/3 innings (4 BB 4 H) pretty much tells the story. He had good stuff, but had no control whatsoever.

    Buck,

Then let him work his way out of it. Carloss is young he needs to learn too....better to go down with your best players then the scrubs.
