He is insane. He thinks that Shaq isn't the best player in the league, because he can't shoot and dribble. LOL. He is mentally ill when it comes to basketball He is mentally insane. Here is part of our convo.:
Dan: oh yeah derek fisher can learn from shaq how to dunk on people and use the shoulder charge at people while posting up
    Dan: no
TheReasonSF3: u are r****ded, hez won 3 straight titles and he cant lead? lol that is stupid. his field goal percentage is close to 60 percent
TheReasonSF3: fisher cant learn from shaq cause fisher cant be a dominant center you idiot
TheReasonSF3: you are so stupid when it comes to basketball
TheReasonSF3: you dont know anything, you probably watch 1 game a week on tnt and listen to everything kenny smith says
    TheReasonSF3: you are an idiot
Dan: u no how unlikely it is if ur 7-1 and works under the basket all the time for u to miss????
TheReasonSF3: what do you want him to do to lead fisher, start chucking 3s
Dan: ur stupid...im saying shaq cant lead...cuz he cant teach other people...fisher being my example
Dan: but kobe can teach fisher
TheReasonSF3: he leads the league in field goal percentage every year
    Dan: retart
Dan: u have a very very bad understanding of things
TheReasonSF3: o of course he cant lead. hez only lead his team to 3 uncontested titles
Dan: he is the whole team so he cant lead the team...he cant lead himself
TheReasonSF3: every magazine source in the country lists shaq as the number 1 player in basketball
Dan: he passes only wen he doesnt have a shot
TheReasonSF3: and when he has the shot he makes it all the time
    TheReasonSF3: you are so stupid
Dan: hes vulnerable to shots...like wen divac jus kept takin jumpers and shaq couldnt contest it
    Dan: retart
TheReasonSF3: like 20 publications top 10 lists list shaq number 1, but yeah they are all wrong
TheReasonSF3: who is better then shaq?
    TheReasonSF3: you havent said anyone
Dan: have u not been listening the past 15 min we've been talking stupid???/
TheReasonSF3: you just said that kobe was better, who else is ?
    Dan: many people
    TheReasonSF3: list them idiot
TheReasonSF3: no one except kobe has 3 titles
TheReasonSF3: and shaq was the teamz leader
TheReasonSF3: you are the only person on the planet that says that shaq isnt the best and you are saying that im stupid, well you are an idiot
TheReasonSF3: go email the sporting news, espn, sports illustrated, and tell them that a dumb kid (you) thinks that they are all wrong
Dan: idiot...all the following can do the overall things...shoot, rebound, and dribble: mcgrady, iverson(he can past shaq so quickly...and if shaq stays down low to wait to block him he'll jus shoot a jumper, kobe, etc...best=overall performance...shaq is the best franchise player but isnt the best basketball player
    Dan: jordan has 6
    Dan: pippen has 5
    Dan: horace grant has 5
Dan: titles dont mean a thing
TheReasonSF3: mcgrady cant get past the first round, iverson, lol, his team sucked in the east,
TheReasonSF3: titles mean a thing you idiot, the best team wins, and you need the best player
Dan: francis has only gotten in the playoffs one time
TheReasonSF3: who cares if iverson can score on shaq, you know nothing about basketball
Dan: dats y i didnt even mention him
TheReasonSF3: and he isnt the best player
    TheReasonSF3: shaq is
TheReasonSF3: mcgrady isnt better then shaq you idiot, can mcgrady lead his team past the first round in the weak east?

Dan: best team wins...doesnt have to be with the best player
TheReasonSF3: best team, shaq without kobe and the lakers are still the best team and all they have around him would be fisher and horry
TheReasonSF3: mcgrady is not better then shaq
    TheReasonSF3: you are so dumb
TheReasonSF3: check all of the publications that list the top 10 player, mcgrady is nowhere close to shAQ
Dan: the kings could've won...they had great team work...it wasnt cuz chris webber kept scoring...no...he passed like a team...yeah hes probably the best on the team...but hes not the best...its by with a team to win
    Dan: yeah but they lost
TheReasonSF3: and shaq dominated the finals
TheReasonSF3: he won the finals mvp all 3 years
Dan: cuz they didnt have finals experience
    Dan: they should've won
    Dan: ask anybody
TheReasonSF3: lol you are so dumb
    TheReasonSF3: the sporting news:
TheReasonSF3: 1. Shaquille O'Neal (1), Los Angeles Lakers: The most dominant player in the game remains the same. There are physical problems and weight gain mounting, but he is phenomenal and becoming one of the best ever.

    2. Tim Duncan (2), San Antonio Spurs: He's the picture-perfect post player from any era and still getting better at 26, but needs more help if they plan on contending for a title.

    3. Kobe Bryant (5), Los Angeles Lakers: The best open-floor player in the game, and anybody who hasn't noticed how he gets more like M.J. every year isn't paying attention
TheReasonSF3: you know more then the sporting news ;-)
    TheReasonSF3: sports illustrated
    TheReasonSF3: 1. Shaquille O'Neal
    2. Kobe Bryant
    3. Tim Duncan
    4. Kevin Garnett
TheReasonSF3: you know more then them also right?
    Dan: thats wrong
TheReasonSF3: those guys actually get paid to make stuff like that, tmac is the best ;-)he cant lead his team past the first round in the weakest conference in the history of basketball
Dan: they dont understand how best doesnt mean the best overall player...they're saying best is the best franchise player
    Dan: and thats totally different
TheReasonSF3: you do, you cant even play
    Dan: wutever dave
Dan: maybe cuz tmac doesnt have horry fisher and kobe
    Dan: shaq has kobe
    Dan: tmac has...who?...horace grant
TheReasonSF3: just joking bout the paying thing
Dan: oh yeah thats a great duo rite there
TheReasonSF3: if he was so great then he could lead his team past the first round
    Dan: okay
TheReasonSF3: what about the raptors, didnt they make it past the first round? \
TheReasonSF3: they did with a bunch of scrubs
Dan: yeah maybe cuz they had rebounders
    Dan: no
Dan: antonio davis isnt a scrub
TheReasonSF3: i told my dad what you said and he thinks youre nuts, he said that shaq is the best and kobe is better then tmac
    Dan: morris peterson isnt either
TheReasonSF3: mo pete averaged 10 a game and davis averaged 14, so a team with 2 good role players made it farther then mcgrady
    TheReasonSF3 wants to directly connect.
Dan cancels request; no connection was made.
Dan: antonio davis doesnt contribute by scoring retart
    Dan: by rebounding
Dan: oh yeah hes known for scoring
Dan: thats y they showed him on inside stuff rebounding for them and not shooting
TheReasonSF3: so you are saying that a good rebounder, an okay scorer, are better then "tmac"
TheReasonSF3: he just plays defense? he averaged 17 points in that series
    TheReasonSF3: and peterson averaged 9
TheReasonSF3: so you are saying that a team with no superstar should be able then a team that supposedly has one
Dan: i asked my dad about this and he sed being a basketball player means u have all the fundamentals down...(its me now) and shaq doesnt have the fundamentals...he cant go past somebody and he cant shoot...shooting is a major thing if ur gonna do the fundamentals
    TheReasonSF3: not for center
    TheReasonSF3: centers
    Dan: exactly
    TheReasonSF3: olajuwon couldnt shoot 3s
    Dan: counting all positions
TheReasonSF3: do you mean that he wasn't that great cause he didnt shoot
    Dan: yes he could
TheReasonSF3: different posistions have different requirnment
TheReasonSF3: pgs cant post up, 2 guards cant dominate in the paint
TheReasonSF3: not everyone can do everything
    Dan: jermaine oneal can dribble
    Dan: he can shoot
    Dan: he can rebound
TheReasonSF3: so is he better then shaq lol?
Dan: he can go past a guy
Dan: no but he has the fundamentals
TheReasonSF3: a center is designed to dominate inside, not shoot 3s and dribble
Dan: hes more of an overall player than shaq
TheReasonSF3: do you see mcgrady dominating in the post? no
Dan: yes a good center would be able too
TheReasonSF3: jordan couldnt dominate in the post, and he couldnt shoot 3s
    Dan: yes he could??
TheReasonSF3: lol you are saying that shaq and all the centers in the league arent good?
Dan: the heck are u talking about?
Dan: i jus sed jermaine oneal was good
    TheReasonSF3: jordan was a career 32 percent 3 shooter
TheReasonSF3: he couldnt dominate in the post. does that mean that he wasnt, in his prime, the best player in the game?
    TheReasonSF3: heck no
Dan: yeah and shaq was around then wasnt he
Dan: he won an mvp too
Dan: but jordan was still the best player
TheReasonSF3: shaq aint better then mj
TheReasonSF3: mj was the most dominating and the smartest
Dan: and is voted to be the best player in the 21st century
TheReasonSF3: shaq could dominate inside, but mj dominated everything
TheReasonSF3: mj was better then shaq
    Dan: yes
TheReasonSF3: the best player plays best for his teams in games. the lakers dont want shaq to shoot 2s and dribble like a pg. his job is dominating and thatz what he does. he is unstoppable in the post. he is the hardest player to guard in the league. there is no one that can stop him. that is why he is the best player in the game. take shaq and trade him to orlando for tmac, and the magic would be sooooo much better
TheReasonSF3: the magic would do that trade in a heart beat. they would pee their pants
Dan: but a good guard can do a little bit of everything...the only thing shaq can do is hook shot dunk rebound block
    Dan: oh and post up
Dan: kobe and mcgrady can post up yes they can do they hook shot...but not as good as shaq...they can shoot they can dribble they can rebound they can block...maybe not as good as shaq though at blocking and rebounding but they have everything down
    Dan: and they have speed

Somebody please help him! Can you guys please tell him how dumb he sounds. I will have him view this thread. He says a lot of dumb things when it comes to hoops.

Yeah. My friend isn't too bright when it comes to basketball. He thinks that if a player's career high is better then another player then the player with the higher career high is a better player lol. Tony Delk scored 50 one game. He is better then Steve then. ;)

    TheReasonSF3 -

Apologies in advance but I'm just not in the mood to read your entire first entry in this thread (too difficult to follow). But, I do have a comment which is not meant to be argumentative but to broaden the perspective.

Would you agree or disagree with me if I made the statement that what defines the "best" player in the NBA is subjective? How are you defining "best"? I think that you and your friend differ regarding your definitions of the word.

Hypothetically speaking, you and I could agree that Dennis Rodman would be the "best" available rebounder for our imaginary NBA team. But we may disagree as to whether or not Rodman would be the "best" player to add to the team.

This example is meant to highlight the difficulty in extracting a definition of "best player" when the game has such a large element of team in it. (Thankfully emphasized in the recent WBC's).

Case in point - what if the Lakers and TWolves swapped Wally Z and Kobe? Or the Kings and Lakers swapped Christie & Kobe? See what I mean?

On that same line of reasoning - play this game with your friend.

    Pick a 5 man fantasy team by giving him pick #1. Now, you take picks 2, 3, 6, 7 & 10 giving him 4, 5, 8 & 9.

Now reverse it and you take the first pick.

Again, my long-winded point is that picking the "best" player can be somewhat abstract, subjective, and certainly influenced by the other "team" components.

In closing, even intelligent men can err. Remember when Robinson was the MVP over Hakeem? ;)

LOL. Sorry about the long convo. He thinks that he's an expert and he probably watches 1-3 games a week. He is nuts. He thinks that Tracy McGrady is a Christian.
Listen to this lol. You know how McGrady did an interview with Slam. And during the whole issue he was like f--- this f--- that. And cursing like crazy. My friend says that 'it wasn't really him. The interview might not actually be of him, or they just added the curses'. LOL. If they altered the interview McGrady would've probalby sued them lol.

I actually agree that Shaq is not the best player. If he played for a small market team, it is possible that he would not be given the leeway that he is with the refs. If the refs would call an offensive foul on Shaq's "move", there is no way I would pick him as the top player. Tim Duncan is a much more complete player and puts up comperable stats without a free pass to the basket. I might even pick Tim Duncan as is. I also agree with your friend that rings are not a good measurement of the quality of a player. Bill Russell has ten rings more than Wilt Chamberlain, but it would be very hard to convince most basketball experts that Bill was better. There are 12 players on a team, not just one.

I can't believe anyone actually read through the entire post. Not saying that it was a bad post, because I would have no clue since I didn't even get halfway through it! Congratulations if you did! Maybe you can count beans or toothpicks for a living!

Simple, you are both right in different ways. If you had to pick one player that is going to make the biggest difference on a team, you take Shaq. That doesn't mean he is the most fundamentally sound or talented player. Shaq is great because of his size combined with above average talent. If you put McGrady's talent in a body like Shaq, or Shaq's talent in a McGrady body you'd have one unstoppable force and one CBA scrub. Your friend is arguing on a talent level, while you are talking about who is the best difference maker.
