Is it bugging anyone else that there are occasions in every game were jj turns into carmelo anthony and decides its 'his turn'? Seriously, i think he doesnt exactly bring the 'vet leadership' ppl praise him for, hes never been a leader on any team in his career for a reason. On a sidenote, motay is really husslin out there, his weaknesses are so apparent, but you can definitly see him trying his hard out on defence, a really good example being his work against gasol other night.
It's only been four games... JJ has earned it by his play last year. He will come around as the season goes on. Everything will look good when he starts to make those open shots, and I feel he will.
JJ was uncharacteristically jacking up shots today. Granted there were some bad shots, but most of his shots were wide open looks. AND he should take them. We need the players around Tmac and Yao to hit their shots to be successful. I wouldn't harp on JJ that much. I think he got some bad blood with his former employers or something. But I'm pretty sure if JJ hit half of hit shots, we wouldn't even be criticizing him. "you'll miss 100% of the shots you don't take" and this season, especially, we need them to take the shots and hit them.
That didn't really bother me as much when he turned the ball over. He's not a good passer at all. It seems he has trouble understanding the geometry behind passing.
I noted this mid-last season when there was still so much euphoria over JJ"s play. I do think that JJ is a worthy contributor to the team. But he also overrates his own abilities and fails to defer to better players too often. Last year, it seemed that he considered himself a scorer on-par with Francis, Yao, and Mobley. THis season, he treats himself as an option on par with T-Mac and Yao. JJ has developed a reputation as a "savvy vet." In many ways, that's accurate. But he's also a selfish, savvy vet. Admitting it doesn't mean he's not a good player in the aggregate.
jj is part of the rox big three by default. until sura comes back, or a trade for a better pf is made, this is how it is.
I agree with you 100%. I always get pissed at JJ for over-playing. He always try to make something happen which is not his role. He takes lots of fade away in your face type of mid-range jumper.. make bad passes, and turns the ball over. His defense is horrible also.. he alwasy get pumped faked.. get blown by. There is gotta be a reason why he had been traded around.
1) JJ's shot will start falling after a few games. It was the case last year. 2) He can have some off nights, and he keeps shooting. 3) His post game is one of the mismatch we like to utilize on some possesions.
uh JJ is liek one of the most consistent players we have. He is the GLUE of the Rox. Under no circumstances do I want to see him go unless its for a top tier guy
JJ should just concentrate on the standstill shooting. Sometimes he likes to play some pick and roll, and sometimes he forces up shots. This should never happen when tmac is on the floor because he is better in both skills. If Tmac is not in the game, then the ball should go into Yao. With 2 superstars, we do not want to rely on JJ creating his own shot.
I was upset with JJ tonight. He was actually the one who played well with Yao last year. There is no room for last year style of play. Hopefully Gundy's taking him out of the game sent message to everybody on this team, not only JJ.
I've said this since last year, JJ is the biggest problem this team has. It's not because of his missing shots, players get cold all the time, you have to shoot when open. His problem is not knowing his role, he really thinks he is the star of the team, not the role player, that's why you often saw him doing his 1on1 thing, then through up a wild shot. I still remember the comments from him when questioned why not feeding Yao, something like "Yao is not the only player on the team, we got other good players." etc. There is a reason he couldn't survive with any team he has been prior to the Rockets. Let's just hope he has learned the lesson from being benched tonight.
he's just taking mobley's role from last year. Where as last year he would be more of a spot up shooter, we need him to be a shooter/slasher this year as mobley was last year. Nothing wrong with that. Mobley just looks more fluid doing it. Granted T-mac does most of that now but he's got added responsibilities now that him and t-mac are the G/F scoring options instead of mobley/francis from last year. PG is there to distribute the ball unlike what happened last year.
for me, i just think that this board over-rates jj in general. Are we seeing some of the characterstics which have seen jj move around like 10 times? Does anybody else remember all those annoying threads earlier about how jj is the LEADER of the team etc? what leadership skills does he show exactly to warrant this? How is he the glue? Wouldnt we be better off with a defensive specialist on the wing besides tmac alot of the time, because to me... tmac is playing by far the better defence on the parimeter and we should avoid having tmac defend the kobe's of the league. Hopefully thats boki nachbar and jj can resume the sac kings role he held 2 years ago.
oh come on jj is the only reliable player to score when yao and tmac is not playing (sura would be the other, but his injured. MoT, lue are just flashy players, howard is strugglyng)
ok so Francis is gone, we need another player to bash. We tried T-Mac already and Yao, so it is logical we now Bash JJ. The player who everybody loved last year, and everybody called him the most reliable player on our team, but after 4 games we are ready to bash him??
Heck yea, i love JJ for his consistency. Everytime he hits the trey i tell my gf "that's why i love JJ" =p basically, as someone said in another thread, JJ is our mario ellie.
